will this work for my m5550?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ILL-_-20231135

That'll be what I'll get when I make the upgrade, unless I can find a lower Cas Latency of 4 vs. 5 for PC2-5300.

As for Vista drivers, I'm running a partitioned HD w/both XP and Vista on it. I loaded Vista to see how it would perform on my m5550. I used the drivers provided from Alienware on it.

So the lower the Cas Latency, the better, isn't it??

I picked up 2 2gb Corsair sticks for $80 after rebate from Frys. This was an upgrade from 1gb. I had no compatibility problems and my 5550 is a bit faster now. And yes, my Vista 32bit shows only 3.3 gigs. http://shop4.outpost.com/%7BGs8EAoUM...roduct/5175606

G.Skill has this memory, but only at 2gb (2x1), w/a CAS of 4, w/timings of 4-4-4-12, for PC2-5300 memory, vs. 5-5-5-15 for CAS 5. Make doubly sure it is PC2-5300 and not PC2-4200, should you purchase.

Hopefully they'll come out w/the same for the 4 gb (2x2) package.

Just bought 2 gigs of Patriot, can't wait till it comes to put it in my Alienware. I hope it speeds up my computer, Vista is eating a lot of my speed.

I hope you have better luck w/the Patriot brand than I did. It failed twice on my m5550.

I wrote the wrong name brand, I meant to type "Corsair," lol. But, judging from your experience with Patriot, I'm glad I didn't buy that brand.

I just checked the site and can't believe it! Thats really unfortunate. Do you think they will replace it with a new 15.4" model? I am also surprised the Sentia is gone too (even though thats been gone a while, I dont know the exact reasons why though). I personally like the 15.4" range for laptops so when my m5550 needs to be replaced I hope they have something similar I can replace it with. This is sad news

No not sad news, its GREAT news because FINALLY the new machines will be exactly what everyone has been waiting for over the past 4 years now. It took longer than expected, but they are here!

For now, without a 15.4" notebook on the site, Alienware is suffering, but once the new m15x comes out, it will more than make up for the lost time.
