Is there a strictly laptop repair forum?

I always come up with alot of questions to ask when I am repairing laptops which I do for a hobby and some extra cash does anyone know if there is another forum that is just about repairing laptops. Anyways I will tell you the question I came up with on yesterday. I had got a vaio PCG-5B1L (VGN-B100) and when I first tried to power it on nothing had happened. I tested for power from the dc jack on the motherboard and I accidentally touched the positive and negative and it made a spark. I tested it with out crossing them and there was power so I figured I was out of luck. I unplugged the power and was going to give up on it and just start looking for a working motherboard for it on ebay. While looking it over I hit the power button for fun and it started up on a charge that was left in the battery! So a non working laptop was resurrected from the dead by a spark. Why the heck would that happen. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I was considering trying it on a vaio vgn-s360 that I have which turns on and everything works but shows no video on the lcd or external monitor.

Any Luck? I'm on the same hunt.

would you expand the description of your "hunt"? depending of your comp and its issues, you might get good hits on the net regarding step-by-step instructions as how to fix them.

cheers ...

I don't have a specific Question, People frequently give me laptops with various symptoms that they consider broken, sometimes I can fix them sometimes I can't, I have about 3 right now that "I can't" and was wondering if there was a forum for tinkerers like myself to share success stories. like chips accidental vaio defibrillator.

maybe we should consider starting a notebook repair forum

The 'Peer to Peer' section of most of the brand forums is about as close as it gets. At least that's the case in the Gateway-Emachines section.

YES that is a good idea, how do we start one. I have repaired and sold probably 20 different laptops and still do every day.

2nd-ing olyteddy, and it is not just gateway section, but dell and others as well. NBF peer-to-peer has the best format as i experience , comparing with other tech forums. Short of "personal" blogs in laptop repairs, NBF peer-to-peer contains a vast repository of good users experiences in fixing/repairing/tinkering with their own systems. That, and coupled with the section own pictures sharing - is a good venue for sharing information.

To the OP, why dont you visit the peer-to-peer sections of NBF and see if you can share the specific experience that you might have? Or even share with us some added inputs as how to expand them, or streamlining from them into a wished repair section alone?

cheers ...

Share with us the experience and info for each of the brands you worked on, with pictures please ... and we can sticky the posts to the brand peer-to-peer section that is concerned

cheers ...

Figured as much, just that I've seldom ventured out of my brand...Once in a while into the 'Other'...

That would probably be best. The support section could cover the repairs.
