Disabling Travelmate 803lci onboard wifi

I want to upgrade my TM to 802.11g using a pcmcia card (D-Link DWL-G650) but there appears to be a conflict. So I want to disable the onboard centrino WiFi.

No clues from the BIOS setup screens - anyone have any idea how I do this?

couple of ways

- press the wireless button if available (may not have since really old unit)
- disable it in device manager
- physically remove the card. <--- my preference, and while at it throw in an Intel 3945 802.11 ABG so you still have pc card slot free.

There's not a button on the front to disable it?

Yes there is but it seems to be a software switch and Linux doesn't seem to support it. I'm running Ubuntu (Gutsy).

I had issues with the Intel firmare loader too, couldn't get it to behave with my 3945BG card on FreeBSD. Though Ubuntu Fiesty had no issue with it.

You could just remove the Mini PCI-E card, would only take about 5min to do. I'd advise you to tape up the ariels with electrical tape just so there is no chance of them shorting anything else nearby if you did go down that path.
