hello everyone, my chembook 2056 is here this morning, however I didn't have time around to check it up till now. First my specs are

1.7gighz centrino with wireless , ati 9700 128 mb, 512mb ram pc2700, 60gig hdrive 7200 rpm, and 15.1" wsxga, cd/dvd rw.

I'd like to do the review , yet I'm too excited right now for it
so I've already go ahead and took some pictures for those are interested how's it look alike..

Right now im gona go ahead post, and for the time being I will install winxp pro and run all the necessary drivers.

just for your head up...the lightop is pretty light...I was comparing my cousin's dell 600m it seems about same weight around 6lbs.

now ill shut up and for the pictures..

enjoy it...

Any idea what kind of touchpad it uses? Alps, Synaptics, etc?

How is the battery life, heat, and noise?

Can you use dual batteries? This was questioned in another thread.

Finally, how are the speakers?

I think that covers all my questions.

this is super nice! can't wait for mine to arrive!

What was your wait time on this laptop? I'll order one immediately if it's less than 2-weeks... nice pricing for a high-end system.

Thanks - Pir

took me total of 5 days since ordering ( i have 3 days ups select) and wasnt home for one of schadueled delivery date

touchpad is synp

the noises is quite low even when the fan kicks in

the dual battery is optional with replace of optical drive

the speaker isn't just as great as toshibas or sagers (not much to be expected on laptop)

there's only one flaw...im rma back ...what a bummer ...you know the wireless switch? well its lose, so even after the drivers been installed it stayed "radio off" so i can't even shift the switch on now since its too lose to shift back on... I doubt if I can fix this issue my self to save me shipping money though the chembook people have 48 hours promised repair time with 2nd day ups on them...

well any one knows how to unscrew one of those tiny little screws on the bottom chasis of laptop? id like see if i can just do it my self about the the switch..

One last question, what is your opinion of the lcd panel? did yours have any dead pixels - this laptop has everything I've been looking for...and them some! =)

Thanks, Pir

I have no dead pixels...the sxga isnt too much to expect it from, the brightness is somewhat decent at certain adjusted lcd angle...

Ran any benchmarks. 2001se and 2003. please post

is it. and how does it perform. Thanks.

I ordered the same machine badged as a PowerPro 5:6 from powernotebooks.com today. They claimed they'll ship it out for me on Monday. Cool guys over there...

I believe this has an ALPs touchpad. I suppose it's possible that the Chembook models are different than the PowerPro models, but it seems unlikely. I hope I'm wrong. I've heard nothing but good things about this little monster.

well im pretty sure is sysnap touchpad since driver said so.

the cdrw/dvd is made by quanta and is detachble and replaceble with secondary battery...and id thought the spinning noises pretty low. havent got the chance to chck up the dvd yet, i dont think im gona run 3d mark now, because as i said i ll have rma back due to wireless switch problem that's not able to receive any radio signal.

Alright, follow the issues ive had about the wireless switch, I have gone up till 3 am this morning central time, and fixing the issues on my own hands in order to avoid the rma and shipping cost..

well, just for the heads up , if you are ordering this chembook model or powernotebook 5:6 beaware that if you have intel pro wireless option when the guys putting the upgrades on the original barebone of the system are heedlessly ignored the switch to be attached to the notch of the intel pro card it self...

well I'd figured it out when there was no lights indicating as well that obviously the switch was loose...

mind you, that it was extremely pain in the ass to unscrew every little tiny screws undeneath the chasis...

Then, the part you have to break it open the 2 chasis sealed withone
another I literally have use my fist to extend out the chasis big enoguh for my other hand to reach in and re-attach the switch back to notch of wireless card...it was ridiculously painful took some cuts off my fingers and nails..

well with everything is said and done, the switch is in working order now so on the wireless..

I guessed it did too taught me some lesson inside on the structure of this notebook ....and saved me the shipping from rma back

I am really doubtful if they've ever run the series of test on the laptops before shipping it out....

yeah anyways, I will run some 3d mark test later on....but first i really need some sleep

Yeah, my experience was that the wireless on/off button doesnt get alot of respect from the resellers. They dont use it, so why should you? I admit, I dont use the internet or email hot butons, but the touchpad on/off, wireless/ and power settings (proc speed) buttons I use alot.

Maybe the resellers will start getting a clue with so many people asking to have all thier laptop features work- doesnt seem like an unreasonable request to me.

Your pictures are a little large, not everyone is using a WUXGA screen. Sorry had to say that.

i was viewing it at 800x600 resolution and I don't complain about it. It's great when someone posts large images of things. you can always resize them if that's a problem for you. I actually like this laptop even more from viewing his pictures, because the ones available on PowerNotebooks site didn't do it for me, so I was ordering this notebook hoping it looks better then what I saw on their site.

I agree... I was viewing this at 1280 x 1024 and had not problems whatsoever. I think Jason brought it up because he has a big thing about people posting posts that are inconsiderate of 56k users. He once made a comment about it in some post of his.
