Hi there,

We bought a NEC iselect m5610 laptop but we are having problems when it comes to boot up the first screen pops up (ie the NEC logo screen) and then again the screen goes back to black and doesnt seem to load the operating system. The Hard disk led lights would still be flickering but no use. One will have to switch if off and on again for like 5 times in a row. Could this be matter of BIOS update which i cannot find around or something more serious. The NEC iselect m5610 is equipped with an Intel centrino 1.73Mhz and 1Gb of ram. It also has a GeForce Go 6200(which results difficult to work on vista since i cannot find any suitable driver for it). At the moment we are running a windows XP pro operating system. Please can you help me out on this one!

Thanks in advance

I am having problems understanding exactly what is happening. You are saying the computer POSTs fine and you hear the single beep or whatever is normal for your computer? And then the screen goes black? If that is the case hold F8 after the POST check is done and see if a text menu pops up, you will need to be quick. If you are saying something else can you clarify?

Basically my laptop never beeps after the bios starts up and yes the POST seems to be fine but when i press F8 nothing happens in this case. The screen remains blank/black.

Try booting from your install CD?

If it was a matter of not being able to load the OS, in every case I can think of you would get an error message form the BIOS, assuming it had POSTed correctly. I am assuming your screen works during the POST portion of the boot correct?

Also check to make sure that you don't have it set to use an external monitor only. This may mean a couple of different things, including checking for a setting in the BIOS as well as after 5 minutes of the black screen using your keyboard combination to switch between external and internal.

Infact what i see strange in all this is that the first bright screen showing the Nec Logo (ie the boot strap program loading) thenafter usually the windows loading page thing shows up in which case it doesn't.

It's good thinking about the external thing or not.. i'll check it out and what happens.

Thanks

Chris
