Using a laptop overseas

I'm about to purchase a Sager 9621 and will be travelling to France soon. I've been told by a friend that laptops nowdays have an inbuilt transformer and therefor will work when plugged in (I do have an adaptor to switch the connection). Before I leave I would like to make sure that this information is correct in case I have to buy a transformer.

If the laptop doesn't have a transformer, is there one you would recommend?

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to find that info in the users manual which should be downloadable from Clevo's web site. However, you may want to consider Dell, or some other popular vendor for which service will be easier to get overseas.

The power brick itself is the transformer for the laptop. As long as the plug you're using fits into the outlet your laptop is good to go.

That's right!
I live in Europe and bought me a new cable, the adapter works fine.

But...

You better wait a few weeks because Sager is doing an motherboard revision right now. They do this so that the 9261 will run the new (and fantastic) nVidia 8800gtx videocard.

I am sorry to hear that. Please reconsider or you might regret it because upgrading your motherboard and buying this new card will cost you an extra 1.000 bucks. I live in Europe, if you have an address here you can let them sent it to you within a few weeks.

From what I hear the only problem we'll have if we don't upgrade the motherboard is that S3 (sleep) won't function. If this is the case then I don't mind not having it, or waiting for it to become a bit cheaper.

Also, is that quote for $1000 a final quote from Sager (I'm buying from xoticpc)?
