Does anybody know, or has anybody tried to write to faster media (either -/+R or -/+RW 4x/8x media) with this drive? I have been told that there is no available firmware update for the device and it currently stands at ver. 1.10
-Thanks for the info.

Typically, speed ratings on media represent higher quality media. It shouldnt be a problem.

Check the packaging. Apologies that I only have three available :
  • FujiFilm DVD+RW : "Up to 4x Write Speed"
  • Memorex DVD-R : "The DVD-R disc is 4x and 1x compatible"
  • Memorex DVD-RW : "The DVD-RW disc is 1x and 2x compatible"
Typically, media rated at higher write speeds can write to some lower write speeds, but perhaps not all lower write speeds.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I know that typically when media is rated for high speed it is better quality and can be burned at lower speeds, but what I am concerned about is with the dvd burners there was lots of talk about slower drives needing a firmware upgrade to burn at their stated speed on faster media. Something to do with the *dvd* book standard or something like that for dvd + and -. Was wondering if anyone has burned any kind of dvd with this drive on 4x or 8x media without problems.
Thanks again.
