converting m170 into m1710

Ok so I know that the m170 and m1710 are pretty different but would this work if I
1) bought the m1710 bottom plastics
2) bought an m1710 motherboard
3) bought core duo / core 2 duo cpu
4) bought SATA hdd
5) bought intel minipci-e wireless card

Then just keep everything else (and sell my leftover parts). Basically I would end up with an m1710 with a 7800gtx (for now until I upgrade) using the m170 plastics/memory/LCD/bluetooth.
Would that work?

I believe you would need new memory too...m170 is clocked at 533mhz and m1710 at 667mhz. And I could be mistaken, but I think the heatsink on the 7800 is shaped differently, which causes a problem with the bottom plastics...I think you would need to modify them for it to fit. Does the BIOS support the 7800GTX? CAn you find an M1710 motherboard in decent shape for a decent price?

As long as the memory is DDR2, the memory will be fine.

you would definitely hit a brick wall with the 7800GTX on the M1710 board. it would not be supported by the BIOS and there hasn't been much talk of BIOS hacking in a long time so you would definitely need to swap the 7800GTX for a 7900 series card.

you also would likely need an M1710 palmrest if you wanted a functioning touchpad as the connector is probably different.

for all the effort and expense, why not just sell the M170 and buy an M1710 or a newer system?

the 7800gtx should work fine as the 7800gtx will work in the e1705.
As far as the screen not working, I may have to buy an inverter from the m1710 to make that work but I'm not sure. Also, I could easily buy an m90 palmrest as it would fit fine incase my xps one does not.

As far as why I am not just selling my m170 and buying an m1710, this will actually cost me less going this way
