Cpu

I've got a T7200 in my E1705. Is it even remotely possible for me to overclock it? Yes, I'm aware Dell locks the BIOS, but is there an unlocked version like JuanLu's mod?

EDIT: Could a mod please change the title to like "E1705 CPU Overclock" or something? I just noticed how horribly vague Cpu is...

I was able to use a program like ClockGen on my old laptop to overclock it. Maybe it would work with a DELL too if a person know which PLLs it had or whatever?

There's been a lot of attempted work and discussion, and the answer is still no.

Threads where other people say "no" too:

The closest anyone ever has and ever will get to overclocking CD/C2Ds (but still a failure):

There's no significant performance gain to speak of, either (judging from a T7600 VS. a T7600G). Invest some money in RAM and GPU upgrades.

Sounds good. How many RAM slots are there in an E1705? The max RAM speed is DDR2667, correct?

I'm gonna get a new PSU pretty soon, and overclock the rest of the hell out of my 7900GS (I'm stuck at 490/605, any higher and I get artifacts, and I'm pretty sure I need to increase voltage for it to work). Then, maybe 6mos or so down the line, I might pony up the cash for a 79x0GTX (who knows how much I might have?) Then, maybe, when a good 8-series-equiv. Quadro comes out for that Precision M6300, I'm gonna buy that.

there are 2 slots in the laptop for memory

667 mhz is the Max

You can also look at the fx-2500 > same as a 7900GTX
or a FX3500 > same as a 7950GTX

It is not likely the the new generation of GPUs will work either

not likely the same foot print. let alone BIOS support

Thanks. Well, I looked at the M6300, and that has literally the same chassis as mine (I dunno the mobo, etc.).

True, I don't know about the BIOS, but it wouldn't kill me to try it.

He's saying 8xxx cards and on won't fit.

Nobody has tried to put a Quadro FX-1600 into a E1705 so we don't know for sure yet if it's possible with next-gen GPU's in the E1705.

The latest BIOS for the 9400 was released before the release of the Quadro's release. Long before. Its safe to say that the 1600m will not work in a 9400.

(....and that's just BIOS support)
