Feeler: m9700 Part-Out

I've just about had it with this computer, and I'm considering just parting it out and cutting my losses. I'm just curious how much interest there would be in these forums if I were to part it out. Everything is basically in great condition except for some of the plastic casing and the motherboard (the power supply seems to shut it off during boot-up).

Here's an itemized list of everything I can think of, make me some offers on these parts and I'll probably cave in and sell them:

(multiple items are listed twice)

- Nvidia GeForceGo 7900 GS 256MB Video Card
- Nvidia GeForceGo 7900 GS 256MB Video Card
- SLI cable (I'll throw in if you buy both vid cards)
- LG/Philips 17" glossy LCD display, 1920x1200 Native Resolution
- 1 GB RAM (Corsair)
- 1 GB RAM (Corsair)
- AMD Turion64 2.2 GHz CPU
- 100GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- 100GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- CD/DVD Burner Combo Drive
- Airgo TrueMIMO 802.11b/g WiFi Card
- MiniPCI TV Tuner Card (made by LifeView I think)
- m9700 External Power Supply
- Other misc parts available upon request (if it came with the m9700 I probably have it)

What's the problem's with the computer dude? Would you sell as a whole?

I'd like to take the RAM and one HDD from you. Send me PM with price.

But before you do that, what is wrong with it.. Maybe we can help you keep the machine.

Yes, maybe we can help you out. So you wouldn't have to sell it.

I actually would prefer to sell it as a whole if you or anyone would want it. As far as what's wrong with it, here's a basic rundown:

Everything stemmed from two basic problems - the mount points for the hinges broke on the lid (first one, then the other from the added stress of the first one failing). I have some pictures of it in another thread about that whole issue: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread203557.html

The other problem was just the typical power jack wiggling loose from the motherboard. I ordered a new jack, installed it and everything was fine for a couple more weeks and it failed agian. After the third try, it seems I may have fried something on the motherboard with all that soldering. Every time I turn it on, it will start booting up but then shut off immediately before the windows boot screen.

So a long story short, I'm just worn out from trying to fix the darned thing. If anyone wants to pick up where I left off and buy the whole thing off me for cheap, you're more than welcome to take a crack at it.

you should sell it whole #1, it is impossible to transfer ownsership and you can't buy a warranty. (makes alienware the worst company to me. and thats why I will never buy one) and the other reason is it's almost 100% impossible to get spare parts for it.

I would get alienware myself anytime but I like to aquire spare parts and build my own notebooks and do my own warranties.

that doesn't work with alienware.

like their products hate their business model

You can buy a barebones Alienware laptop kit from their eBay outlet and build it yourself. You can also do your own warranty with any AW system, they just won't transfer their warranty to second hand owners.
