Which TZ..?

Hi,

I am trying to decide which Sony Vaio TZ model to buy and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether the U7600 CPU (1.2GHz) makes much of a difference over the U7500 (1.06GHz)..?

Thing is, here in the UK a U7600 machine is a minimum of £1899 from Sony-Style, but an indentical spec machine (apart from only having the U7500) can be had for less than £1600 from various third-party vendors...

Is it worth paying an extra £300 for an extra 140MHz CPU speed...?

Sorry to bump, but...

Ok, let me rephrase the question - is the U7500 quick enough to handle the likes of Vista well enough (wont really need to do anything too taxing), or would the U7600 be a safer bet..?

The best way to go is make sure you get 2 gigabytes of ram.
The faster CPU doesn't make a huge difference.

The best performance boost you will get is if you wipe the hard drive and kill the hidden recovery partition. Next, use a vista business CD of your own and the sticker on the bottom of the unit - itll require you to call a toll free microsoft number to fully activate but atleast you wont have AOL burned into your computer.

Thanks, tho I ended up getting the U7600 version in the end, and have wiped the hidden partition and put on Home Premium instead.

I managed to install all the drivers from the recovery discs, but unfortunately the brightness function keys don't work..!? I can live without that tho...

Go to www.sony.com/support and grab the shared libraries driver and notebook utilities. SmartWi is useful if you plan to use the sprint card or turn the bluetooth off but it sometimes causes .net runtime crashes.
