PS3 capabilities

Thread Starter
I just went out last week and got a ps3. Since then I have been downloading demos, playing a couple titles when purchased, used remote play with my psp and created media servers. I was just curious if anyone has been using any of these features instead of gaming ability and if they have discovered some great tips. I used http://www.simplecenter.com/index.html to create a media server on my desktop to stream my music and photos. I used that because I don't like wmp, this was free and seems to use limited resources.

the media center is VERY useful. you can pretty much watch any movies or music on your computer via your PS3 when its hooked up to the LAN. When they release the divX codec on the PS3, then it will be nearly complete.

Can I ask what format do you put your videos in to display them on the ps3? I ask because I have a bunch of backed-up dvds on my pc but will not display on the ps3.

Grfx Programming to be sure......
There is/was a bit of a hack that allowed access to teh RSX in linux, which, as it matured may have allowed for indie game programming.... but is no more after 2.10 (at least for now)

The Linux community will break it so enough. Hell Yellow Dog is still the only supported distro. I had Xubuntu on mine. Need the HD space though, so it went bye bye.

You're a programmer and work with it all the time so, how can I load a bigger HD in my PS3 say 160 gig or so?

Take out the old one, put in the new one, in xmb choose format drive......voila
(One area....not mentioned in previous *closed thread... were PS3 is superior to 360 heh)

Why stop at 160 when 250 and 320 gig drives are abound!

Wait, you're telling me that it will see more then the factory drive space? Interesting. That means I could dump a shyt load of movies on the drive and never have to get off my ass to watch them.
