Can not set up a dial-up connection.

I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-TZ130N/B notebook. It came with Windows Vista Business 6.0. I had been using wireless for accessing the Internet. However I am going on the road and will need to access the Internet via dial-up. The problem that I am having is when setting up a dial-up session I get "Windows could not detect a dial-up modem". The modem works via Windows Fax and Scan, so I know the internal modem works. I have reinstalled the driver over and over again and I get the same results. I am thinking that my driver is not compatible with Vista. But my notebook came with the driver installed so I figured Sony had tested this. NOT! I have called them numberous times and they tell me to reinstall the driver. That didn't work. They said to restore drive C from the VAIO Recovery Center. That did'nt work either. I don't think Sony knows anything about my problem nor can they help. Microsoft Support wants $59 before even talking with me about my issue. I am hoping someone out there has come across this problem and has a solution?

Yes the modem driver is present in the device manager and states it is working properly. I can even successfully query the modem. It is the driver that Sony uses for the TZ series notebooks. I am assuming that setting up a dial-up thru the wizard in Vista has problems. It won't let me even set up a script regardless that a modem driver is present. I can use the Windows Fax and Scan that is built in Vista. It can find the driver thru that software. It just can't find a driver thru the setting up a dial-up script. This is very frustrating. Obviously I am the only person that has this Sony Notebook model that uses dial-up. I am assuming that Sony has not heard from other people about it or they would of had a fix. With WI-FI so popular perhaps others don't ever use dial-up the old fashion way with a land phone line anymore. They probably use EDGE or WI-FI. I guess I will have to take my chances on the road that I can use someones free WI-FI. Oh well.
