I got this Vaio (PCG-9411, K6, 5.5g hd, 64 mb ram) from my fathers friend who was throwing it out... due to video failure, which seems to be a common issue with sony laptops.
I ran through some laptop repair flowcharts, and all final outcomes lead to board failure.
Now the strange part... There is one 64mb stick of ram, and two ram slots. whenever I switch which slot is occupied, the computer boots fine, works great for a undetermined interval of 1 to 30 shutdown/boot up's. After the mystery number is met, the screen goes dead. You still hear a boot, just don't see one. So I switch to the other ram slot, and all is temporally well. untill i do it again.
the computer has ran like this relibily, save a 4 mo hiedus where the ram swap trick didn't work.
any ideas anyone??? I'd like to get her a new battery, but not untill i figure out why this happens....
