A few weeks ago my m170 started having blue lines on the screen and wouldn't boot. I could boot into safe mode and the blue lines were gone. I researched a little online and saw the blue line problems with the screens, but thought that since mine was fine in safe mode it must be the video card.
I replaced my 6800 ultra with a 7800gtx (couldn't find a 6800 anywhere) yesterday. Immediately the blue lines were gone and everything worked great. But 3 hours later my screen started showing random characters in random colors. And now it wont boot again (there aren't any blue lines, but there are pixels of different colors randomly on the screen). I was so frustrated that I didn't work on it anymore last night (I'm really hoping I didn't waste hundreds of dollars on a video card...) After work today I'll check to make sure all the connections are good.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Do I just have a loose connection somewhere? Is it something other than the video card?
