Need a good HD SATA replacement....

My current Vostro 1500 has a Fijistu 120GB SATA but runs at a slow-ass 5400 RPM... I feel like tearing my hair out sometimes when this laptop boots up... Are there any cheap and reliable SATA HDs you guys recommend at 7200RPM (I think that will improve my performance extremely better...)

You sure its a sata drive ?,the dothan laptops I had were pata.

If it is sata, the fastest is the Hitachi 7200rpm 200gig model with 16mb cache......I haven't seen it compared speed wise to the new 320 gig 5400's though

Definitely SATA - the Intel Matrix Storage Manager says it's working in Gen 1 SATA mode with NCQ enabled (PATA definitely can't do NCQ...)

So some people say.....I disagree.

Just get the Hitachi 7k200 (7200rpm, 200GB) hard drive. It's the only 3rd-generation 7200rpm hard drive out right now.

Pretty much every other 7200rpm hard drive out there is a 1st or 2nd generation 7200rpm hard drive... they are fast, but no faster than the newer 5400rpm hard drives with capacities 250GB+ using Perpendicular Recording. A 3rd generation 7200rpm hard drives will show 10%-20% improvement in performance over the 5400rpm drives, and even older 7200rpm drives.

It will cost you about $200, but worth every penny.
