Alien Owners...Weigh in...PS3 and PC

Thread Starter
I have the XPS, and the Xbox 360, but I have been looking at the PS3 with the FragX mouse like controller, and I've been tempted. The 399 price, plus the controller cost me around 475ish....then I can ask for games from santa. My thinking is I can rock the FPS games on PS3, and that saves me from upgrading the PC for a while.

Has anyone here bought PS3 and played COD and other games? Anyone used that FragX mouse like controller? Thoughts and experiences?

A pc will always be better than a console. UT3 on the ps3 is locked at 30 frames per sec. You most likely won't be playing crysis on a console alot of other console shooters are heading out to the pc.. Gears of War to name a few.

I'd save that 399 and put it towards a pc.

Commish, are you EVER going to buy an Alienware?
I have all the consoles, and an alienware. I would say if you have mates around alot a console would suit you better (as you don't look selfish haha), but if you are a graphics maniac then a pc would be your best bet as it has better specs etc. I keep the pc for MMROPG, and then games such as assassin's creed for ps3. I think it matter's what games your looking to buy in the future, and if you'd rather play on ps3 or pc. Like GTA4 that's a must have on PS3 imo. Also you have to think, with the PS3 you get a free blue ray dvd player....that's a huge bonus! Hope this helps at all

I have to say that the future of the PS3 is completely dependent upon what kind of great quality exclusive titles they are able to aquire in the first half of next year. Otherwise owning a PS3 is really only good for the Blu-Ray player and the fact that it is a pretty decent media player. Running linux on it is a plus among the fact that you can put use whatever sized harddrive you want unlike the stupid XBOX360 which sells their 20gb hdd for over $90 and the 120gb hdd is $170. My friends love to play Resistance and MotorStorm. I myself love the blu-ray discs and I'm waiting for the 5th installment of granturismo. Other than that I use it to play my music over my system right now, and watch movies. Also it is an upconvert dvd player.

I'd rather have a good gaming PC than a PS3 ... especially since you already have the 360. If you've played all the current games on your 360, then a PS3 might make since. COD4 is available for the 360 as well, I believe - so that's not enough reason to buy a PS3.

I do like my PS3 ... games that shine are Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, and most likely some of the other exclusives which I don't know off hand. Still not enough to justify a 360 if budget is an issue. On the 360, you've got all the sports games, BIOSHOCK, Mass Effect, Halo 3, PGR4, Forza2, and lots of others.

I'm awful with controllers... give me a keyboard and mouse any day!
BFisch, that is the great thing about the PS3 right now as most of the up and coming FPS' are going to be keyboard/mouse compatible. UT3/Killzone 2 and a bunch of others. I've used my keyboard and mouse hooked up to my ps3 for a short stint and it works just like a keyboard and mouse should. Now just think, for the first time you could really take on those controller freaks with a keyboard and mouse which is what god intended us to play FPS' with.

Bring on the FRAG!

I have to admit the PS3 does have limited titles out at the moment, I'd also say I dont feel like there's as strong a community when compared to xbox, with the PS3 you have to set your own mic up, and hardly anyone uses 1, as with the 360 everyone has a free mic, so people end up talking to each other more. If you get a ps3 you have awesome graphics, reliability (to an extent) etc., as if you buy a PC you can have problems that you have to deal with on your own, or with the help of v.helpful people on these forums :P
At the end of the day a rele good gaming pc is gonna cost about 3 times that of a PS3, and if your looking for an Alienware, you can probably afford the PS3 and PC anywayz. Good luck with your decision! Xbox live ID: thespies PS3: FerrariPunto
See ya out there gaming!

I have a 360 and a wii. The PS3 is looking very attractive now with the price drop. $399 is a great price for a "all in one" HD player, game station and media center.

I'm on my second 360 and am sometimes afraid to turn it on but the games and graphics are great, especially on a HDTV. The wii is loads of fun when playing with your friends, however the graphics are terrible.

I think the wii is a test bed for things to come from Nintendo. The "next" wii is going to blow EVERYBODY away!!! imagine all the fun of the current wii with "Mindblowing" graphics of the 360 and PS3......can't wait!

Not so sure about that, while the 64 was and still is (imho and others) a pinnacle of gaming greatness, raw sell through numbers were destroyed by the earlier to market and less powerful playstation. It appears ever since then N changed there design and target audience. With the success of the underpowered (compared to competition) Wii and DS I dont see them changing this philosophy any time soon.
