I must admit I am looking very seriously at splurging on the 15.4" when it is released.

That is one very nice looking laptop.

I wonder if dell will release a better 15.4" XPS notebook. THey currently have the 1530 but the GPU option is lame.

Speaking of the m15x, I think it's really great to hear about. We've never seen a high-end GPU offering in a laptop under 17", I'm excited about it. Months ago everyone would have called anyone thinking there would be a 8800GTX in a 15.4 incher crazy and stupid for even considering it.

I would love ot get a decent 15" laptop. As I work away from hoem and constantly on the road. But I also enjoy a game or two siiting in the hotel. I think a decent 15.4" notebook would suit my needs perfectly. Plus it woudl save on the fuss travelling with a lighter notebook.

don't really like the red on silver theme it has, although the keyboard looks kick-ass. And although I guess it's good to leave customers an option, I think the new "ripley" design is way too plain and boring for an AW. If I just went and flushed my money down the drain I'd totally rather have a cool looking nerd-machine

I personally would prefer a 1710 over the M15x, although I'd steal a keyboard

The blue backlit keyboard, hmm tasty

I don't think they're ugly, maybe alittle plain. If you want to see ugly look at the m1730, compared to that these laptops look heavenly.

I like them plain. I like to pull my laptop out in public places and not make it look like I unearthed an UFO. That's why I think the 9300/9400 design was so cool - unassuming and low key. Never understood why people said those Inspirons were ugly.

Also when they look plain, people are less likely to steal them cause they look less valuable.

yup I would rather have a simple looking system for business, and to be able to play on at night while on the road.

Plus the huge XPS logo everywhere just draws attention. I remember my first XPS system, I had the XPS bag. When passing through airports I often had people ask me about the system and if I liked it. Well since then I just have a plane jane bag and no one ever ask me what's inside.

yeah that's true, even though at the beginning I'd think the XPS would look cool, past that I think it would just be awkward to be stared at

I am leaning to an AW M17x at this point, looks sexier than the 1730 and the dual 8800 gtx in sli is just a whore. It will come down to pice in the end but as far as design i like the AW m17x
The problem with the 1730 with the 8800gtx will be more of a problem of it being a single card solution like the dual 8700's now vs the AW true dual card solution, which is better time will tell since neither are available yet. The xps is a beast and the AW is well alien, it will come down to taste, but yes AW is alot more subtle and boring in design than the xps and I think less likely to be attractive to theives.

I wonder if it's going to be one of those little hot ovens that need to be propped up on a stand and be in a 21 degree C room.

I doubt it. Check out the size of the fan intakes on the base and that the whole of the back of the laptop is an outlet grill, there are no connectors on the back at all. Looks like a well thought out cooling system to me.

having actually seen these 2 in person I have to the the 17 inch solutions from alienware AND dell are both still boring and uninspiring however the 15 inch AW is sexy in every way possible. Its faster than thing out right now ina 6 pound body which is wayyy mor eportable. What I didnt like was how loq quality the 15 inch panel AW used for th edemo unit however since these are beta machines i cant really say that will be the case come Q1 2008 when they hit.
