Windows XP networking

Grrr....

Anyone here have experience with Windows XP Pro networking? I need some help or suggestions.

I make a shared folder with full permits on each computer but after running the assistant and creating a shared folder always one or two computers refuse to join the network.

Each has its own name, have their network name assigned and all but can only see themselves or don't let other systems access the shared folder on each. They even ping each other well but refuse to share.

Even after deactivating the firewall software on each, they're connected to a stand alone router and are not connected to internet. Tested the router and it works fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

When networking computers the first and foremost besides firewall configuration is that they are both on the same workgroup or domain. For a non-business or university home account you would have a workgroup which can be called pretty much what you want it to be just make sure both computers are set for the same name. Once the changes are made you need to reboot to sink in the change. Make the change by right clicking My Computer then going to Properties then the Computer Name tab. Best of Luck and Happy Holidays!
