Thats all fun and great in the first 3-4 years of a console, but after that PC graphics will surely be ahead of consoles leaving you far behind in the dust.

Last Gen sure. This Gen I doubt it. Plus I agree with FF look at the costs of keeping current with PC's.
I haven't spent a dime on my PC since March of 2006 and i haven't needed to upgrade anything. Im upgrading this March to make it an even 2 years. That's hardly inconvenient or costly.
