I just ran Call Of Duty on my desktop, it has a 2.4g P-4, 256 RAM, and a Nvidia geforce 4 440 mx which i hear isnt even DX9 compatible yet it runs call of duty just fune on medium settings with absolutly no lag or dropped frames, what gives? I have been looking to get the best posible graphics card on a laptop with the fastest ram etc, but it looks as though most laptops will indeed be fine for gaming. My question is what does this configuration comapre to in performance with a laptop? what would be the laptop equivilent of my system, if thats a valid question?

I have this memory installed in my Inspiron 14R. 6gb (one 2gb & one 4gb). Great performance! I highly recommend Kingston.

To match that performance in a laptop, the most important thing would be to get a laptop with discrete (not integrated graphics). Almost any of them with a seperate video card/ram would match this.
However, not all games are quite as forgiving. But, if you are happy with your desktops performance and only seek to match it, this can be done quite cheaply. However if buy in at that level, just remember such a laptop will not be "current" for very long. You can't future proof a laptop. No matter how much money you spend in 3 years it will be old and slow. However you can shorten this period of time if you buy too far behind the curve. Since you're talking about gaming, I would look first for a good graphics card and then find an affordable system with this card.

Also remember that when a card is not DX9 compatible, it doesn't mean that it cannot run DX9 games - it means that it will run them without DX9 options. All that fancy lighting and shadow stuff you see in the newest games are courtesy of DX9, and if you disable DX9 features, your picture quality is going to lower and thus your FPS may be up'ed.

Bjorn - I plan on getting a very good laptop and since im on a $1800 budget i think it wont be to hard finding a good system for gaming, i was just amazed that call of duty ran so smoothley on my computer and was wondering about what all the fuss is about overclocking a 256 mb graphic card thats already amazing.
Datheron- Thats what i was wondering about, my fps was very constant and i did not get any lags, the game played super smooth, i did check the graphics settings and it was at like medium setting and low resolution but i wasnt disapoitned since my computer is 2 years old
