I prefer AMD much better bang for the buck. Not the fastest but for what you pay much better then the Intel route. Laptops though I prefer Intel for the combos of Chipset, CPU, and GPU.

The Q6600 doesn't completely trounce the Phenom. You are going to get raped by Intel no matter what happens in 08 in regards to their latest offering. Buy what you want to but think about why you are buying it. Is it an issue where the product will do exactly what you want at the same price or is it an issue of wanting to show how deep your pockets are? Is it an issue of must have latest greatest for bragging rights? Honestly is someone sat you down blind and made you use an AMD Phenom vs. an Intel Q6600 would you be able to tell the difference? I vote probably not.
Dude - I like your analogy above but you have one thing very wrong - I am the LAST person you would consider a 'fanboi'. I am just thought provocative blatantly honest.

The very first sentence made the assertion that it was possible, however improbable...

The truth hurts....and I'd do the same thing to Intel. Just wait until they screw up again, I have lots of ammo....

Hallelujah --- Amen!

Intel's first attempt at an integrated memory controller (think AMD and eliminating FSB gaps) comes with Nehalem - slated for release at the end of CY08.

Nehalem will be a different socket.

Why yes - I believe I made that point.

I just knew this would stir it up a bit =)

Glad to see folks finding their way around.

not calling you a fanboi was saying I'm a fanboi...

You'll get over it one day.

quit using the word fanboi!

Fanboy. I do not know where these people decided to use boi, but don't.

seriously.

And why would you want AMD now, when INTEL is on top? I know it might be cheaper, but AMD's high end cannot keep up with Intel's cheapest quad...

Agreed -

Duke - Maybe a new rule is in order for the news section?

1. The words "fanboy" or "fanboi" are now forbidden when used to describe another forum member.

I know it's a stretch that would require heavy moderation.

I think this would be a good idea. Everybody seems to react badly to fanboy being mentioned.

I don't know why anybody that is buying a high end system would go AMD right now, if you want high end you're out there to squeeze your system for performance and the intel route is plainly the better choice as of now.

This is the question i have for Darq and Nyako... it makes 0 sense to go AMD. 0. The price difference is negligible and Intel performs that much better.

My reason is a conscious effort to support the under dog. The computer will do what I want it to do. It won't be the fastest, but I don't need the fastest. Cost being similar power being similar I'm not buying a Yorkfield. You see what happens when competition starts to fade Intel will milk you for all you're worth. Sure AMD would probably do the same but for right now they're having to play catch up and if you all go buy Intel you'll never be able to afford the next generation of Intel. Will the cost be similar in the end for what I want? Probably. Will the upgrade path be troublesome? Possibly. Atleast the AM2 socket is a little less long in tooth than the 775. And it's my money I'll spend it in a manner that makes me feel better about dumping alot of money into a computer while millions die of starvation, disease, and war.

So you're going to sacrifice performance, to help amd sell one more chip?

To help the poor, starving, war torn people of the world?

ok.

Performance sacrifice?
None really.
The other stuff?
Call it sarcasm.

thats the worst reasoning i've ever heard.
yup
leave it to say that I'm doubtful of me seeing a performance difference at the price point I'm at. So I'll spend my money where I want. part of my comments are sarcastic and I apologize for that. The whole save the world thing was a joke.

You're absolutely right. It's yours. You earned it. Spend it on what you want. Enough said.

But - spare me the ideocentric analogy. It doesn't work.
