desktop effects in Ubuntu 7.10 on HP dv2500t?

Hi all,

I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my new HP dv 2500t laptop with the following specifications:

* • Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
* • 14.1" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
* • 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)!!
* • Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
* • HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Webcam + Microphone
* • Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
* • 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
* • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
* • 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

But I am not able to get the "desktop effects" to work. Has anyone managed to get the "desktop effects" working in Ubuntu 7.10 with a same kind of laptop? If yes, do let me know how.

Check out which driver the GMA X3100 uses. I've not seen that GMA model previously. If it uses the same driver as the GMA 965, then it's probably been blacklisted because of buggy support in Compiz for it.

You might be better off asking this on www.ubuntuforums.org.

I saw that the driver for my graphics card is not listed under the restricted drivers; so probably I will have to wait till the next release of Ubuntu and hope that they include drivers for this particular graphics card.

Thanks anyway.

You can download the drivers and install them from Intel.
