i threw my 2 cents in. benchmarked my m1710 with 7900gtx in the thread.

my FRAPS result is near the same as what the 8800 got @ 1280x1024...

maybe diff @ higher res??? or better drivers???

they will probably remove my post like always cuz it hurts business.

keep in mind, thats a stock clocked 8800gtx vs 79x0's overclocked. So until we see more 8800gtx systems tweaked out, I am not gonna beleive the numbers. Plus the driver they used is not a good one
and I might add Crysis runs like crap even in my home system
post #3 of 76
In the end, the 8800m GTX will beat and blow away the 7900GTX/7950GTX, no ifs, ands, or butts.

Crysis (IMO) is a true P-O-S

yup, when it's oc'd as far as it can go or combined with SLI.

I take my tokens when they appear.

No, it won't take any overclocking of the 8800m GTX to beat a 7900GTX or 7950GTX. One at stock speeds will blow a heavily overclocked 7950GTX out of the water. Thats just the pure physical differences of the two.

you forget one important factor here, 8800m gtx is a dx10 card and runs crysis in dx10 on vista, a 7900 gtx runs crysis in dx9 only, its comparing apples to oranges, you cant compare stats from a 79x0gtx running crysis in dx9 on your laptop vs a 8800m gtx running it on vista in dx10 like in the review.
run them both in dx9 on xp and show me the stats and i'll ponder your tokens.
Show me a 79x0 gtx running in in dx10 vs the 8800gtx, oh thats right it cant.... thanks i'll take your tokens now

Well, if the 8800 does end up being a total bust, 7950GTX SLI systems will cost like $2,500.

If the 8800's end up shoving a grenade up the 7950's asshole, I'll just get a second job. It's too early to tell.

TT what did u purchase recently? It used to be 2100 for total investment?

How 'bout all of those participating in a retarded "in my opinion" debate, should realize that your epeen is worth nothing
post #12 of 76
I agree that the comparison is off because the review shows the game running in Vista environment where as the compared system is in winxp this alone makes a huge difference in performance. Using 3dmark03 is a pretty accurate way to gauge actual performance since many games today show comparable results.

I bought a 160GB Seagate Momentus hard drive from Dell.com. My avatar is guitarist Mick from Slipknot.

Yes, but then it says you can't compare 8800m GTX with 7950GTX OC'd based on those results.

You can get a 8800M GTX lappie for a little over $1700 here (I'm not totally clear on linking rules, so I can take it down if needed). The configuration to do so is somewhat skimpy, no OS and the minimums on the HD, screen res and processor, but you get what you pay for. All told it may wind up costing roughly the same as Sager offerings. I was surprised at the price, though.

Once they bench the 8800m GTX in a Windows XP environment with better drivers, the winner will be clear cut. I even own a 7900GTX so if anything I would try and defend it, but in this case its gonna be useless the 8800m GTX is just way more powerful.

No you cant truely compare both in an xp environment, because the 8800m gtx is a DX10 card, the 79x0 is not its DX9. so sure if you want to compare the two's DX9 performance head to head, then yea, thats a semi comparison.
But the 8800m is designed as a DX10 card first and formost and DX9 compatable second. still in 3dmark06 it spanks the 79x0gtx, and in real world gaming its results are less advantageous so far. Time will tell but this is the next generation and for all we know as in with desktops, processors are holding back the vid cards potential already, so a lower clocked notebook would be holding it back even more. That will change in January when the penryn mobiles are released and as the video card drivers mature.

errr comparing them both in DX9 is fully reasonable and there is no advantage that the 7900GTX would have over the 8800GTX. DX10 barely ads anything anyway, so most of what the cards are generating in DX10 is DX9 + some minor affects.

I mean, look at the 7900GTX desktop vs. 8800GTX desktop, the 8 series whoops their ass, so arguing that it's not fair is just ridiculous. Also, 3dmark is a useless POS besides enlarging your epeen.
