Faster Hard Drive for Laptop

Thread Starter
I'm looking to replace my 100GB 5400RPM with a faster hard drive around the 160-200GB range. So far, I've come up with a 160GB and 200GB 7200 RPM HD with 8MB cache memory. Is there anything faster out there like the 10000RPM Western Digital HD's used in desktops?

I think the max for notebooks is 350GB.

I haven't seen 10k hard drives for notebooks yet.

Nope haven't seen any 10K RPM hard drives for mobile systems yet. Figure that would generate too much heat and consume the battery like crazy.

Good point, moidock....should have thought about that myself! I guess that I'll max it out at about 160gb 7200 RPM.

I've got that same drive. Very nice.

I think 7200RPM is the fastest for the notebook, unless you get one that uses SSD heehh

Yeah. I think Samsung just announced for CES a new 128 GB 2.5 SATA SSD with 80 MB write and 100MB read for as little as $10.00 / GB...........

Yes, that's about $1,300 dollars.
