Bracket for Second Hard Drive

Thread Starter
I'm considering buying an HP dv9700z, one of their models that can accommodate two hard drives. Anybody know if you buy it with just one drive installed, does it come with the bracket for holding the second hard drive? I figure it will be easy enough for me to throw one of my extra drives in myself IF the mounting hardware is included.

I asked HP sales and their response was "we don't know"

Thanks,
A

Update: HP tech support finally gave me the answer. A single drive laptop does not come with the mounting bracket for the second drive (lame!) You have to purchase it separately for $36. Part number 434106-001. I suppose they do this to try to get you to purchase one of their overpriced drives. What a crock.

Yep, sales is sales...can't really blame them, they only get "need to know" info on products after all!

Anyway, I see that no one has responded yet, and unfortunately, I am not so blessed as to own a model that actually supports two drives.

My common-sense guess would be that if it has support for two drives, then it will be set-up with whatever mounting hardware that is appropriate...however, you could go to HP's support and service web site and email them.

i know, you would think that this information is more easily available, eh?

Hey, on their web site, I could not find a dv9700z, only a dv9000z, and dv9500z...lots of dv9700 series models, but no dv9700z listed?

It likely will NOT have the hdd cage & SATA adapter necessary for mounting the 2nd drive. I'll need to look at the 9610 or 9720 and see what it has to be sure.

That being said, I have a spare cage & adapter for the 9000 series...$36? I won;t charge nearly that much! $20 shipped? Make me an offer.

no, it will NOT include the mounting bracket for a second HD, something which is required.

Check eBay for the bracket.
