Playing Crysis in a Notebook

I recently bought crysis and installed it in my notebook. My notebook is a dell precision M90(quadro fx3500m) 3dmark06-5867....which i guess is a pretty good score, but the game seems to think otherwise....my lap struggles even at 1024x768 res.....I initially thought my graphics card ,not originally meant for gaming, was the problem but other games like COD4,ProStreet,LostPlanet work smoothly....even at 1920x1200...!!!
Anybody able to run crysis in their lap smoothly ??

Nope. I feel like a Crysis basher, but all I'm saying it what it really is

Crysis was put together to basically not be enjoyed unless you have a desktop 8800GTX or Ultra, and even then when you max out the FPS drops to an almost unbearable level. The code feels very loose and the game IMO was designed just stupidly. EA again let another crapper out the factory doors just like almost every other FPS for PC that they produced.

I say enjoy the other games you have and play them, Crysis doesn't have a good enough story or gameplay to make it worth playing at it's crappy level.

ya crysis is not as good as it is hyped. you can only get satisfaction if you have maybe 2 8800 cards i guess. i somehow was able to finish the game on med settings with occasional hiccups. and on that settings it didnt look any better than far cry. even the gameplay is allright and not that great. with the same config i can enjoy games like bioshock and cod:4 which i think are beautiful. just need to get my hands on gears of war

I play it fine at low settings @ 1280x720 on my laptop and it still looks decent better effects then BF2.

PM 2.0ghz, 2 gig ram, 6800go 256mb.

I am waiting for my new DTR to see how CRYSIS plays. However, I have a feeling that even with SLI 8800M's it will still struggle at the higher resolutions.

what about WOW?

WoW should play just fine.

With Crysis, look for mods and tweaks to help out, there are loads across the net. Loads help with performance, a few even alter settings to give out great graphics but better performance than original settings.

Hi
Try getting the natural mod.It will help a bit,but don't expect miracles.Crysis needs much better system.

An FX3500 wont play crysis with the eye candy even with an over clock of 10000/20000

If that OC were possible, it would likely beat out any SLI system on a laptop and play crysis VERY smoothly. I got about a 10 FPS increase in crysis going from stock clocks on my 7950 to 630/750 (thats 1500 effective) so i would assume the game would be just as scalable the higher one overclocked, its not as though overclocking would just be a mainstay and limit performance after one got so high, it just doesnt work like that.

Oh and an answer to the OP's question, I have the 'gaming' version of your card, the 7950 GTX and it plays crysis like a turd, dont expect it to get any better than you have it unless you do some SERIOUS overclocking. Like I said, i can OC my card to 630/750 comfortably and i get about 15-50 fps average (50 being in houses and the like) but it hovers in the high 20s and low 30s.

Crysis is meant for at least an 8 card.

did the developers use 8800's to make the game in their devkit computers? Ive always wondered if it was just the horrible coding on Crytek's part or if Crysis SHOULD be able to run on 7xxx series and above smoothly. If i remember right, the developers conference I watched, they said it would run Admirably on a 7900 GTX (desktop version) which performs about on par/slightly better than my 7950 GTX Mobile when I OC it.

Even with a 7950GTX it still cant handle all the extra features, even with an overclock. I had mine @ 660/730 and it played fairly well, but I had to turn alot of the settings down. My roomate has an 8800GT desktop of course and he can play it on very high and it looks completely different than on medium. You hear Crysis get alot of crap about, "oh it doesnt even look that good,'........Well no shit, you (not you personally) probably dont have the machine intended to run it @ the settings it was designed to be experienced.

You could go into the hardcore and tweak the settings in the config folder, but thats too far for me, its only a game.

Perhaps the devs had said a 7950GTX on like beta or old build of the engine, perhaps they figured out new tricks since then and the requirements changed.

I however am waiting for a Quad core CPU in notebooks, and hopefully by then they'll have new architecture for the next series video cards

i played through the demo on your m90's successor, the m6300 (specs in my sig).
win xp dx9, 1440x900 (or 11366x768 on 37" tv), all settings on high, no aa, no
vsync and it played very smooth. lowering the shadow quality gives you even
better performance at no noticable cost (actually looks like soft shadow edges then).
i used a 600/900 oc. dx10 very high might be a different thing, though (didn't try).

Well your card, the 3600m, was built on the same platform as that of the 8800. Guess that explains the compatibility of the game. The 3500m however was built on the 7950 platform ,hence the lesser performance. I can ,at the most, play the game at 1280x720 with no AA......

Your config seems to be a killer......but why the XP?? I'm using vista business 64 but have problems with most modelling software. Do you use ur rig for professional modelling softwares?
