Precision Power Supply won't charge any longer.

Well I know how it happened, the copper wire just inside the power adapter's end (the part you put in the laptop) broke off. When I start up the laptop with the cord plugged in I get a warning saying that it won't start because it can't verify the wattage on the adapter, fair enough. But when I leave it plugged in over night it doesn't charge at all. It does allow me to not use the battery during operation but it still won't charge.

So now I have a slowly decreasing battery that won't charge. How can I disable the Dell adapter verification? Without the ability to do so I am afraid I will have to buy a new power supply.

Thanks,
Sean-Paul

That small wire you are talking about is actually where the juice comes in. The laptop knows it's plugged in due to the ground being completed by the adapter, but it's not getting any actual voltage. You will have to get a new A/C adapter I'm afraid to say. Try to swindle one from Dell if you have any type of warranty left. If you are the adventurous type, you can always try to find an identical end and splice it in. Should only be a power and a ground, and maybe some shielding. What I've used before is one of those kits that come with multiple charging pieces.

Well thanks for the news TurbodTalon. I'll see what I can do with the remaining warranty and just get a new one if it gets down to it.

You're welcome. I recently fried my adapter and was without one for a few days. Longest few days of my life, so I bought a spare. Merry Christmas.
