Gateway M-1617 won't connect to wireless / blue screens

hi everyone,

i'm on my second gateway m-1617 (returned the first one for a dead pixel). my problem is this....

i was at a buddies house and connected to his wireless network. everything worked fine. then i get disconnected and the computer is not seeing any networks (not his nor his neighbors). then i get blue screened and my computer reboots. this happens off and on. sometime i'll be connected for a few minutes then get blue screened.

whats strange is i have no issues at all at my parents house. i've been online for the past 24 hours without a single problem.

here's the wireless specs:
Marvell Topdog 802.11n Wireless (EC85)
Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) #2

any ideas? i would like to resolve this without having to return a second notebook

have u tried to 1st compare the configuration set up of ur parent's wifi and ur friend's wifi? it will be hard pressed to force a 2nd return if it worked at one location and not the other

cheers ...

I have the same laptop and similar issues. I tred changing the channel the router broadcasts on to channel 6. It seemed to work last night but I'm not sure that was the issue. I also changed some setings in the McAfee virus program. The wireless seems to work sometimes and not others. Last night it blue screened, and I had to take the battery out to reboot.

i had load of issues with McAfee and Vista in the connections and file sharing, finally just put Afee asides and used Avast, zero issue since then. In between I have added comodo firewall (finally working with vista)

cheers ...
