Inspiron 6000 LCD Screen problem

Hi there, I have a problem with my Inspiron 6000 LCD screen, the lower third of it does not function correctly and shows a messed up image. The strange thing is that when I apply pressure to a particular place on the screen it fixes the problem entirely but when removed again the problem reappears.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
Could it just be a faulty inverter or would the whole LCD panel need replaced?

Thanks,

A friend of mine brought their Inspiron 6000 to me and it's exhibiting the same symptoms as you describe. Usually the bottom 1/3 is completely black, sometimes if you open and close the screen enough times you can sort of see the bottom 1/3, but its still fuzzy.

I opened up the screen, checked all the cables, and nothing seems loose or damaged. If I unplug the inverter and plug it back in, the bottom shows up again but slowly disappears. Tried an external monitor on it and no problems with that, so I'm leaning towards inverter.

I've got one on order and I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

thanks, that would be great if you could let me know. I really do hope it is something as simple as the inverter cos they're cheap compared to replacing the whole LCD panel.

Sorry for the slow reply....

Well I popped the new inverter in and the thing worked no problem.........for about 10 minutes or so...then it was back to the same problem again.

If I try the old inverter, it doesn't work at all it seems (bottom 1/3 is always dead) but the new inverter I can get it to work for awhile, and as long as the screen doesn't move, it will keep working fine. I'm going to try a new cable and see if that will get rid of the issues once and for all.

Hi there, I have some good and bad news.

The bad news is that I was trying to source the problem and cracked my LCD

The good news is that I bought a replacement off rolta.co.uk for £140 and it worked, showing my fault was not with the inverter. The bad side of this was that the screen they sent me had too high a native resolution to view comfortably, and any lower would have made the screen blurry. Another problem was that the brightness controls on the laptop did not function any more after the screen replacement.

Subsequently, I have sent the LCD back for a refund and am currently looking for another.

Hope this helps,
