I'm curious though, what was the problem/solution for the wireless issue?
Well it turned out that the wireless card could see the wireless network, but not connect. I had to go into the settings of my router and switch everything over to a WPA2 secure network, once I did that everything worked just fine.

Congrats on ordering one of these. You will not be disappointed that's for sure.

How much for that config? I have to admit the bundle deal with the 3 year warranty they are offering is quite amazing.

How hot does it get?

alivenight - the M1530 is very well suited to run games, the NVIDIA 8600M GT video card is a great. From what I've read, the 1530 will run modern games very well, most with excellent frame rates. However, some of the heavy hitters, like Crysis, may need to have the settings pushed down a bit to get satisfactory game play.

Posting from my m1530 right now---and yes, I have to turn down the settings on Crysis. To ~1280x800 res, Medium settings all around, no anti-aliasing. And very importantly, run the game in DX9 mode. Then, it plays very well and looks quite good.

It's not hot at all. While I don't have a temperature gauge precisely monitoring the temp, it is very comfortable.

Wow! Those XPS systems are quite impressive. Definitely an option for anyone looking for a high-end system. Thanks!

I wonder if the memory not running in dual channel mode makes a difference with the performance. I got the 3gb config thinking I could just replace the 1gb module with a 2gb for $40 if I wanted to.

I've heard reports that, not to put too fine a point on it, "dual-channel mode was made by Marketing, not Engineering."

Or, one to two percent overall system performance, typically. That's down there in the noise--variations in the test procedure. Heck, defragging your hard drive will give you a much bigger performance boost.

DISCLAIMER: My info's about 1 1/2 years old. It's possible that the performance difference is bigger now with the faster RAM out there...

There was something on a web site about if you have 4GB of RAM installed, the O/S will only recognize 3.2GB(or so).

No, I did not uninstall anything at this point. MbWife is very happy with it as it currently is, so I won't be messing with it for now. I might in the future un-install some of the programs that I find useless.

Turn around time was very quick for me, and I ordered mine about a month after they came out. Congrats on your order! If you don't mind my asking, what branch of military are you (or your wife) associated with?

Army.
