ATI M10 Upgrade ??

Thread Starter
Can anyone tell me if there will be a way to upgrade our current video cards to the M10 ???
The M10 has not even been anounced yet. However, to get an idea of what "may" be possible take a look at the top 2 threads in the news forum for M10 availability and upgrade possibilities.

CeBit starts tommorrow (Mar. 12). We should hear something official from ATI about the M10 during this conference.

Also keep an eye on the main www.ati.com website. They usually put a teaser up a few days before an anouncement to major product (R350, M9...etc)

Well, I don't know what the fuss would be about, the M9 is still a darn fine video card that can handle everything I've thrown at it.

I guess between the M10 and the 7200rpm drives, there's a lot of "waiting" going on out there.

M10 vs. GeForce FX Go

Sorry, but I've never been a big fan of ATI. Their driver support stinks (imo) and it's as though they build for the best for right now, whereas nVidia builds for the best for the long run (TNT2, anyone?). On that note,

Hopefully a Sager with a GeForce FX Go5600?

hmmm

The new Nvidia is interesting...April, eh? ATI will be pushing to get the M10 out asap, then. Any chance we'd see the nvidia in the new sager?

I don't think sager has ever used NVIDIA in their laptops. Correct me if I'm wrong. Based solely on that, I'd have to say ATI only.

Interesting, ATI did not say when the M10 would be available. Who would've thought Nvidia's new mobile chips would have had more information?

I was under the impression that the driver support problem that ATI had in the past is long gone (basically with the arrival of the r300) This is the impression I get from most ATI and NVidia boards. It was also acknowledged by ATI themselves and they stated as well that it is all in the past. I know for a fact that they have been releasing the catalyst drivers in a very timely and efficient manner.

And hasnt ati been pretty much the leader in notebooks with nvidia not showing much interest until very recently in notebook video solutions?

This is exactly what I was thinking. nVidia may have quickly gained ground in the desktop arena, but for mobile, they are a joke.

Then ATI de-throned them in the desktop, so now nVidia wants to play in the mobile arena? Well, good luck to them, and let's hope they keep ATI on their toes.

I have used both brands extensively in the past and present, ATI drivers are rock solid since the r300 release (as was pointed out) and nVidia has always had great drivers (this hasn't changed) - so it comes down to:
  • How much power do you need?
  • How much money are you willing to spend?

Simple as that. There's a card for every budget. In the typical power-user/Sager category, that usually means "All the power I can get" and "Money is for little people, load it up!"
