The Witcher

Haven't seen anybody mention this game.

Reminds me a lot of Oblivion, but much more interesting,I find it a bit cryptic in some bits and get a bit lost with which quest I should be doing first etc but thats probably my lack of RPG experience.

It has some pretty different character interaction like sex and getting drunk which is pretty funny.

Anybody else had a go at it ? I reckon its pretty good for a change.

I've burned a fair few hours on it already.....good value for money compared to the FPS I usually play....and yeah,Geralt's da man

Well,I'm not into RPG's at all really, and I'm really getting into it....so far

I found the combat pretty different to start with, but once I read the instructions it became more effective,I suppose they were trying to make differences to the normal hack n slash type of gameplay, although I liked the combat system in dark messiah more.
Are you saying the sword fights drag on too long?

NO,no.....not the swordfights....theyre fun to play.I was talking about the game as such ...its got too many cinematics within too small a time frame....and loading takes a bit too long...just enough to irritate me at times...

I definitely agree with what your saying at the start of the game, there was a huge amount of cinematics early on but not soo many later on or where I am now [swamp].....I have no idea how far through the game I am,but if you've finished it,you would have a better idea than me on the overall picture

When I first installed the game it defaulted to WSXGA and everything maxed......it wasn't playable LOL

I find it playable with no AA/AF on either native res mixed with mostly low settings or 1440x900 with medium settings or 1280x800 with mainly high quality.
I would think your desktop 7600GT would do better than that,I say just play it on what you have now, then be impressed with your new hardware when its sorted out...hehe

It seems a pretty good looking game, even on mediocre hardware......it might not be as shadertastic as oblivion, but the textures and character models are light years ahead IMHO

Mmmm, getting on in the game [chapter 3 trade district]am finding frame rates are forcing me to reduce to 1024x768 and lower settings

must try some different drivers....friggin loading times are getting longer and longer too?

Have had a couple of goes at Oblivion, personally found it very boring, and after playing the witcher, probably even more so....will probably install it again when I have nothing to play.

Look forward to your comments on the witcher when you install it.

Tried a couple of different drivers 169.09 & 169.04 and it didn't improve framerates at all,had a few crashes to desktop though, only seems to be bad in the outdoors of the the trade district, almost seems like I don't have enough ram or something because lowering or raising resolution and settings doesn't really make a huge difference and it doesn't act like normal graphics jerkiness, more like a type of hard drive paging stuttering.
I did read somewhere that they had problems with memory leaks in this game.

Using 167.26 now and has improved performance quite a bit....no crashes yet.

Yeh i think memory is important with games like these , if your 8600gt has 512mb i think you could play it maxed out ..the res i got is 1070x768 or something ..get 30 fps ..textures on medium .everything else maxed.. very good looking game..like the custom character option at the start..was going for the long silver hair look but changed it to crop last second ..heard so much about this game and reviews ..never played anything like it before i dont kno what to expect !! i can remember buying a copy for the x360 but it was a scammer on ebay who scammed 50 other pple and never got round to playing it and also never got my money back fully = (

Drivers are extremly important and also background programs that cud be running .. i always turn off objectdock plus and winfx before i play a game or else it stutters ..cant wait to get a dual core system asap

Ya,it is a great looking game,I can't believe how much I've been playing it,and I've only started level 5,sort of reminds me of the old tomb raider games for PS1 in length......luckily been on holiday for a few weeks, otherwise I don't think I would have had the time to get into a game like this.

Bad luck with the scammer man
