An Alienware mALX Ebay story - beware

Let me tell you about a an EBay experience I had trying to buy an Alienware mALX. I saw one come up like the link below. It had a But It Now Price of $1,000.00 I figured it can't be legit but if it is and I don't try I'll regret it. So I clicked on buy it now and sent the money to the seller. I also sent him a contact email with my phone numbers and both my home & work emails. Well he called me the next morning. He told me he had answered a Craigslist ad for Ebay sellers. He was given detailed instructions on how to list the mALX lapto along with photos. He was to collect the $1,000 thru Paypal and then forward the real seller $700 which would the que him to ship it to me the buyer. He told me he had never done an Ebay deal like this and was a little nervous. He gave me the seller phone number & website to call and look at. He told me if I didn't feel comfortable after talking to the seller he would refund my thousand dollars. I called the seller and he was very short with me, he said did you send the money through Palpal - I said I did. He then said is he going to sent the money to me - I said we are a little uncomfortable and would like to talk about the transaction. He then said if I don't have my money in 15 minutes the deal is off. I called the lister and he said that doesn't sound good. I told him to call the seller and ask if I could come pick it up. I tracked his cell phone number to Gainesville Florida - about a 3 hour drive for me. The seller wouldn't even talk about it. So the lister backed out and refunded my mon rating with 315 previous Ebay sales. The seller then emailed me that if I Paypaled him $700 he would ship it to me. Yeah right.......not today. Interesting story, well another one with the exact same ad came up today - the lister has 0 previous sales - my lister had a 98%

Also, looking at the link, I'd run away from that. 1,000 dollars and free shipping, for a brand new sli AW lappy... With the seller having a zero rating and just joined ebay today..

run away.

Yeah, run away. My lister was real legit with 315 sales, but a new Ebay seller, never ever. But those mALX lappys are one "ultimate Laptop.

... except of course from Alienware Outlet, Alienware's eBay store...

Sounds like another variation of the Nigerian scams. I like how there are no pictures of the real laptop. Ha. Good thing the lister gave your money back.

I second remark about only buying from the Alienware outlet.

I bought my M5750 on Ebay (1/2 price) and all is perfect. Alienwares site is good but a little pricey for refurbished. Just bought a brand new in the Alienware box battery for my lappy last night for $51 on Ebay.

I'm glad it's going strong, but disappointed the mobo died in under 2 years.
