Upcoming m1710 & m1730 Reviews, What would U like to see?

Thread Starter
Im doing an in depth review comparison of the XPS m1710 and the XPS m1730 cause frankly the ones online elsewhere or anywhere just suck from what ive seen.

I'll be doing a suite of benchmarks ranging from popular DX8,9,10 games and for the sake of doing it 3Dmarks across the board but if there is a demo suite or a game I might have you want me to bench i'll try to include it in the markings so feel free to ask it wont hurt I promise. If there is any particular photo shot of either unit you would like to see then nows your chance to voice up. Im gonna collect all the responses till Jan 7th and then I'll make the magic happen I cant wait to hear what you guys want so have at it.

Requests so far

Age of Empires 3 Asian Dynasties DX9 FRAPS
Crysis DX9-10 FRAPS

Please Include FRAPS for the 1730.

Realworld Benchmarks are what counts.

Crysis, Bio, whatever you can do. that would be great.

and at a bunch of higher res. like 1900x1200, 1680x1050. because frankly all of the other reviews of the m1730 even with FRAPS have been at lower RES with CRYSIS.

I cant wait to read it, what you have reccomended so far looks good, maybe add Stalker if you have it? Just wana c how the Xray engine does.
I second Stalker, it's one of my favorites. I'm really curious how well the SLI works (especially in Crysis). I'm sure Team Fortress 2 will run nicely, but just how nicely?

You'll get some serious bonus points for a review like that. The only useful review I know of is on notebookcheck.

How about some UT3 and NFS:PS. Oh and some COD4. Thanks.
I concur with UT3. CoD4 FRAPS might be worthwhile as well, but definitely UT3, since we're seeing many games now that use the Unreal 3 engine.

CoD4 fraps + lots of pics of the systems please

Please use the best drivers for a particular game and have the driver setting on quality where appropriate, and have the particular rig over clocked

Why? Because the bulk of the enthusiasts here will do the same, and stock to stock with the wrong driver doesnt reflect how people will actively use their systems

(can do stock runs too for comparison)

oh, and happy new year

PS, same screen/resolution comparisons

* I use quality, not speaking for anyone else on that point, just dont see why you'd sacrifice FPS for IQ, theres a balance but thats what we all try to achieve in different ways with different tweaks

Bioshock too please
Agreed, ZX81. Bioshock would be good. However, please make sure you do stock as well (as in, fresh install, Dell stock drivers, etc) just for comparison [as ZX81 said].

I'd like to see overall comparisons to prior notebooks such as the M1710 for ideas or insight if this notebook is really better and by how much? (Long story short I really wanna know if it's worth it and if the Hefty price if justifiable)

Alot of reviews don't really tell much other then it's awesome but it seems to me that every XPS to date has been awesome according to some of these reviews I read. lol.

I know its a little older but if you could throw in something like TF2 or HL2:EP2, that would be good as well thanks!

Its pretty obvious that performance wise you can easily expect to not see any kind of performance increase from previous generation models until we have the 8800 launch and smack the 7950 all over the place. I will however considering some sort of larger comparison expanding on dells previous generation of notebooks to this list.

I would also like to see real world benchmarks, Fraps for COD4 & Crysis. Also some high quality images if possible.

Hmm I can chime in later on when I get my XPS M1730 at the end of this month with benchmarks in SLI.

I can add following games if it´s ok with the thread starter:

Coline McRae Dirt
Gears of War DX9/DX10
Lost Planet DX9/DX10
Medal of Honor Airborne
Kane and Lynch Dead Men
Sega Rally Revo
Oblivion.

Look forward to see how you guys get on with it after my miserable experience with it.

I don't think the current card is made to handle dx10, but it certainly runs games I own better than my M90. If you can find a good driver, and a game that supports SLI, you should be good.

I ran STALKER, and COH so far, and game is run much better than the M90 I have.

Biggest reason I got it was it was on a very good deal from a local seller, and I wanted to use 3007wfp on it, and so far, it's been worth it.

I'm running both game at high/max @ 1900x1200.

For those wondering where the review went well basically the notebook went into a catastrophic failure where a whole system pretty much came apart internally starting from the adapter and im awaiting repairs for the current notebook.

Thats a good question all I know is the system fails a whole block of diagnostics and certainly isnt running top speed. Will update once the issue(s) have been resolved.
