9750 Blu-ray Disc Reader

I am wondering if anyone knows of a place where you could buy the reader for my 9750.
I did not order the notebook with it, and now I think it would be kinda cool to have it (plus they are alot cheaper now)
Is it just the drive that would have to be replaced or is there something else?

Thanx
Mark

Bump

I am still eager to find the answer for this.

I am considering a m9750 purchase and was looking at the BluRay option. Just finished an online chat with "James E." He said that the BluRay read-only drive writes to recordable DVD/CD @ 2.4X; the BluRay writer drive ($140 more) is apparently faster with 8X speed for DVD/CD recordable media; neither has the LightScribe functionality though.

You can buy one from Alienware as a discount if they carry them at this time. Call customer service and tell them you're an existing customer, and you'd like the upgrade price of the blu-ray drive. If they charge too much, ask about the model and you can search for it elsewhere, or one with the same specs that'll fit into the chassis.

I did ask them for an upgrade option. The price is $450 and up.
And they are out of them, for whatever reason.

However, even if they had one there I would not pay $450 for the drive.

If anyone knows the model number the info would be greatly appreciated. I would like to look elsewhere for it.

Thank you

I just upgraded to a Blu ray drive on my M9750. This Model # will work: Optiarc BD Rom BC-5500A ATA. I obtained this new drive from my brother in-laws new Sony 17" vaio. He doesnt have any blu ray movies and doesnt plan on spending any money on them so we did a swap

My DVDrw drive was a Optiarc drive as well. I believe they are made by Sony. If you do the upgrade, make sure that the drive includes a BLUE-Ray playback software such as Power DVD Ultra. Good luck!
