"The recovery partition could not be found"

Got a new HP DV9500T last week, tried to do "Recovery Disc Creation", but failed with the above message.

I checked the partition, there is one called "HP_RECOVERY", all files are still there including the 6.5GB file "BASE.WIM".

Anyway I can check why this error appears?

The hard disks are two 120GB X 2 model.

Thanks, I checked the link, but it doesn't mention the partition not be found error in details.

Anyone has original mapping of all the partition sizes, location?

Anyway can by pass HP Recovery Disc Creation software and create your own recovery discs based on existing "BASE.WIM"?

I noticed the Recovery Disc Creation actually call the file "C:\Windows\SMINST\CD Creator.exe", but don't know which INI file it checks during partition check up?

Not that I know of but....if you contact HP they should ship you recovery discs out at no cost considering that you are intitled to the recovery discs as part of he purchase of your laptop.

I did order the recovery disc from HP, but they sent me Vista Business edition.

Before I tried their DVD, I tried to recreate the Vista Home Premium recovery discs by my own, but failed with the above error.

Few hours ago, I tried the new disc they sent me, but the machine keep booting itself for quite a long time, the FBI GUI windows keeps pop up, and finally I gave up.

I restored the Disk with my norton ghost 12.0 images, and tried to find some solutions here to see if I will have some luck here.

Looks like HP is using SoftThink software to create the Recovery Partition,

Same problem here bud.

Ran the recovery deal and after a reboot i got that the recovery partition was not found. I called up HP and gave them the low down and they sent out the recovery disk at no cost. Used that and it worked fine.

You can do either of the following:
1) request HP give you a recovery disk and use that
2) get a legit vista disk and install it without a cdkey, then use the cdkey on the bottom of your laptop and activate it by calling Microsoft
3) download a vista disk from torrent, which still needs a cdkey of course, and like 2, use your cdkey and then use phone activation

Thanks.

Looks like my recovery partition no longer works now, even if I keep typing F11 during boot up.

The Vista Business Disc they sent to me wiped out the whole DISK1 partition, even if I used the Ghost to restore the partition, the serial # and size of the recovery partition were changed, I guess.

I will require them to send me another Vista Home Premium tomorrow, otherwise, may think return the laptop back.

only if u still have the d drive which is the recovery_image with all the original files in it you can simply do this to fix it go to C:\Windows\SMINST and double click HPRM-BCDFix.Bat and try using the recovery manager again, i did that on my pavilion and it worked. good luck
