I say you'll get a M1710 or M1730

Nice replacement. I spent about 4 hours formatting M1730, SLI drivers are really rare (atleast ones that actually works)

Just checked the status again and it says it will be here tomorrow. I sure hope so. Once I get it I plan on removing the recovery partition and reformatting. I hate bloatware. Then by the end of the month I should be getting 4GB of ram and a 4965. Next I'll get a nice wireless N router. I may get it at the same time. Also want to get another 120GB for Raid 0.

Make sure to do this though.

Before formatting, download matrix driver from dell, extract it, burn it.

You will need it when you start reinstalling the OS.

If you don't, you will get stuck at completing installation status in Vista.

What is this matrix driver for?

I don't know what it's exactly for since I'm not an expert in harddrive settings.

It has something to do with Raid settings in bios, and the OS will not recognize single harddrive if you don't install the driver before OS installation.

You will see an option to install drivers in Vista installation screen.

If you go into the bios/hard drive settings (can't remember what it was called exactly), you'll see 3 settings - Autodetect ATA ,Raid, and Autodetect AHCI(or ACHI, can't remember, it was done at like 3AM).

Factory default on this option is AXXI (3rd option), and if you don't install the driver, you will get stuck at the end of OS installation.

You can also change the bios setting to the first one - Autodetect ATA, but you will have to disable FCM(intel turbo memory) first. With this option chosen, you don't have to install the driver.

Oh OK thanks for the heads up, Ill be sure to grab it first. Oh also I was wondering if the M1730 comes with three wifi antennas, stock? I wanna get the 4965 card and I want to know if I need to get another antenna first or if it already has it in there. Thanks.

Yeah Complete Care rocks. Dell really takes care of you if something happens to your setup. You do have to deal with the customer support reps, which is a headache. Normally it all works out in the end. Good Job!

Well got a call from my wife today. She told me that my laptop was delivered right after I left my house from lunch to come back to work. Figures. I cant wait till I get home.

Man this thing is so sweet. It looks amazing. The pics on the Dell website dont do it justice. The screen is so nice and bright. Colors are vibrant and clear. Time to watch some 720P rips on it and see how it looks.

Very cool, let us know what you think over the next couple of days. I myself am in negotiations to have my E1705 swapped for a 1730 for a multitude of reasons. We'll see what they send...Have fun with it!

The look is certainly far better than pics.

Games perform very well as long as SLI supported.

It's kind of pain to find driver that works, even tougher if BR drive is there to be used.

Well I have been using my computer for a couple days now and I love it. The only thing that is really buggin me is I am trying to play Need for Speed Pro Street and I have it running at 1680x1050 and all setting on HIGH except for anti aliasing which is off and trilinear filtering on. I keep getting slow downs and from time to time it will freeze for a second or two and then play again. I also tried UT3 and running at 1920x1200 with detail settings at 2 for both I avg around 35fps. itll go as high as 45 and as low as 25. So far the highest temps I have seen is 67 for the gpu cores and 55 for my proc. How high can this vid card go before it starts to throttle? also is it possible to overclock these vid cards?
try fraps-it uses LCD gamepad to show stats. Pretty cool if you ask me eheh.

I use i8kfan to monitor temps but had to change GPU sensor to #4 temp sensor, and offset it 7C to match ATItool.

I have not tried OCing btw.

Try COD4 on this system. It runs darn well.

Crysis on the other hand gets killed.

Oh did I mention by enabling SLI, the system will crashalot?

I'm running 171.16 drivers and getting about 8.4k on 3dmark06.

Awesome, glad to hear that. Enjoy that sucker. It is one sweet system and looks amazing. I sit there and stare at my laptop more then I use it lol. I got my M1730 because of this board also because of RickyBronco's thread. Be sure to let us know the config you get once you find out.

It looks like I may be heading down this road. So am I to understand the only video card as or more powerful than the 7900gs that dell has now is the sli one in the 1730? (8700gt I think)

And if that's true, would support know that? I mean how would I get them to understand that?

That's why you have to argue for DVI, as of now they don't have a flipping clue what is going on in the graphics world, having an 8 as the first number makes them think "oh, then it's better than the ones with a 7 in front" so don't even try to argue the GPU route.

If you argue DVI, there is no way they can run away from the truth.

So true. I agree with him, just request DVI. Also I dont know this for sure but I think one 8700M GT is better then a 7900GS but not better then the 7900GTX and definitely not better then the 7950GTX.
