7900GS Overclocking??

HI all

I will overclock my 7900GS, what i the best clock for my 7900gs( i had already flash my bios for the 7900, but i dont know witch max clock can i take)-- i will play Crysis, this lags!!!

Or have any other idea for my problem!?

Sorry for my bad english

You can start at 600/800, and then work your way up. A 7900GS is going to have considerable trouble running Crysis no matter how high you overclock it.

I can start at 600/800 is this not to much. The orignal clock are 375/507 with bios flash with 1V.
Well you can start with 500/700 just to be safe . Thats the clocks i had on my 7900GS . But it can go higher than that . Many people say thats the sweet spot is 600/800 .
Just be carefull with your overclock and you can reffer to the stickies in the Dell 17" laptops section . They have all the information you need to know about overclocking .

Are you crazy?

Dude, without a voltmod, my 7900GS (admittedly, it's the Rev1) doesn't go past 500/600...
With the volt mod on my old 7900GS, I ran 625/825 daily clocks. Thing ran like a locomotive until the day I sold it. Your mileage will vary though, obviously depending on your revision.
turbodtalon, what rev did you have? which is the better, 0 or 1?
Rev 0 is better, because you can flash the GTX BIOS to it (volt mod). Rev 1 was after Dell figured out what we were doing, and it can't be flashed with the GTX BIOS. Both will overclock, but the GTX flashed card will go way higher. I had a rev 0.

ooh.. might try this when i get home im assuming its the one below?
<table align="center" border="5" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="5" width="950"><tbody><tr><td class="Estilo4" align="center">790GTXUO.ROM</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">7900GTX</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">YES</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">YES</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">1,24</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">500</td> <td class="Estilo4" align="center">1200</td></tr></tbody></table>

Yes, just make sure you have a revision 0 card, or you'll be in for a lot of extra work.
yep it sure is, ive been playing with the other bios roms, but it was overheating, i thought because of the voltage, turns out it was 4mm of dust between the fans and heatsink.
will give it a go tonight and let you know how high i can get it.
well its now flashed to a 7900gtx, and running quite happily it seems at 600/750. though maxxed out in atitool it is getting quite hot sitting at about 83c. before it was overclocked it would sit at 63c max.
i8kfangui also seems to be turning the fans of every 5 seconds for half a second which is also quite annoying. any ideas why?

its had no errors for 25 mins now though, so i think all should be ok!

EDIT: the above was done while doing nothing else with my pc but watching atitool. Interestingly as soon as i opened up firefox and started browsing again(using my pc), my temps have dropped to 66c .. at the same clock speeds?! it is also idling at 51c
Also i was using the extreme G mobile force G3 drivers but windows seems to have reverted back to the 84.69s.. Now that windows thinks its a 7900GTX, what are the best drivers for it? im getting 163.76 as i type, hopefully they will be ok.

Sorry f34rd0+c0m for taking over your thread, but hopefully my experiences can help you also!

i'm not sure if STARTING at these clocks is really so good.. ok, the card is way underclocked, but 600/800 is a LOT. i run my card at 475/680/1v now, and it's ok. i think of clocking higher, when i'll start getting problems with games (ok: i don't play crysis), but i (personally) would start at a lower clock speed and go higher in smaller steps while observing the heat.
beside of that, if you want to get higher than 475 core clock, you need the 1,24v flash. you CAN'T go much higher than that with 1v. if you go much higher than 475 core using 1v, your performance will drop extremely and/or you will see artifacts (effect depends on the game). however, many people here recommend to buy yourself a 150w power supply when going 1,24. and they are probably right. and you should also consider, that your card (probably) only has one heat pipe, instead of two (like the gtx cards have). this can cause heat problems and at least makes regular cleaning of the fans necessary.

The important thing to note is whether you have rev0 or rev1 card. Rev1 cards are drastically limited in comparison to rev0. Also, the 130W power brick should suffice for 7 series or lower cards.

Anyway, dragic, the temperatures dropped merely because the atitool window was not in the foreground and hence the card was using the 2d clocks/core voltage. Oh, and sorry, but I'm not in the driver scene anymore.

cool man.. i got some off the dell site which seem to work well.
final clock of 630/800 which gives me 5347 3d mark 06 marks.
not bad im thinking! max temp was 72c too!

the stock one is 90w. the other one i know is 150w. didn't know, that there is a 130 one, too. however, to oc higher, you should get at least more than the 90w one afaik. i could see how big the difference is on a desktop card, where i changed the 250 w psu to a 500 one. both worked, but the stronger one gave far better performance. didn't try the notebook psu myself, though.
as for drivers, check tony's ones (here at the forum). i use them, they are fine. might not give you better 3dmark score, but the actual gaming performance is better than with the old dell stock ones.

OK, we're assuming he is running at 1.24v. The 600/800 rom is the very first rom I flashed, and I never looked back. I don't know what the limits for the lower voltage are. 600/800 is not high for a properly flashed 7900GSX, it's barely a starting point.

i might be too carerful... however, i wonder how much the actual performance difference between my current clocks and the 600/800 is. any info on this? and if flashing to 600/800 makes any sense with a 90w stock brick. and if the single pipe can handle it.
if it doesn't require a new psu i might think about getting higher in the future, too. but i still would prefer to have a nice desktop for gaming then. i saw some nice small xps desktops at the dell site with a 2,4GHz CoreQuad, a 8800gt and basically everything you need for around 900 euro... makes me kind of want to spend the money, but i force myself to wait for a newer processor/graphics card generation, as i actually still can play every game i want nicely on my laptop.

I would recommend a 169-Series driver personally, and many others would as well. Right now, the sweet spot seems to be 169.04, which either can be gotten from LaptopVideo2Go or the MobileForce version, which can be gotten FROM HERE.

thanks mate, will try those ones when i get home from work!
