Dell XPS Support First Class (replacment system)

Well... When I bought my M1710 11 months ago, I was swayed to Dell because of the support (3 years next bus day onsite) If you read my previous posts, my M1710 started to develop some problems, screen flickering and memory problems etc. Dell sent a guy out..
On the first visit he replaced the Motherboard, LCD panel, CPU, Ram.

On the 2nd visit they replaced the Motherboard, Ram and Hard drive.

On the 3rd visit they brought some new driver disc's, XP MCE OS....

All of this still did not resolve the problem and in fact the system had dies and would not load a new OS onto the new hard drive...

Anyway I spoke to XPS support and to thier credit they were pretty honest with me and rather than give me a direct replacment they offered me the new M1730 with dual gaphics cards al loaded up, no arguments...

I quite often hear about how woefull Dell support is (I only have experience of the XPS side of things) But have to be honest, they really have been first class with everything. The Irish/Canadian XPS tech support is on the ball. I guess they get a bad rap when something goes wrong so I felt it was just to give them some "positive buzz"... Something to take into consideration if you are looking at a high end Dell system...

That really says a lot about Dell's XPS support team. I've heard some good things recently, actually more good than bad. They seem to have come a long way!

I am surprised they upped you to the 1730 with the 1710 still being in production. Glad to see dell taking care of you.

Not sure if Dual 8700 is really an upgrade from a 7950. Remmeber that ALL games will use the 7950 fully where as the Sli will only work on SOME games.

I myself think that M1730 is a great machine , no matter how thick it is or how ugly people say it is . Its just that they stuck M8700GTs in it instead of 7950GTXs . If in the future there going to be a possibility to upgrade to 8800M GTX its going to be an ultimate powerhouse , with an outstanding support .

My machine turned up yesterday and I am really pleased with it, regardles of what some users say about the design it really is something to gawp at, really something to be seen in the flesh.
Out of the box it scored 4.8 (Windows Experience points) out of 5. Oddly enough the system does not ship with a Vista re-install disc but it resides on a restore partition (accessed by hitting F8) Nice little feature.. The keyboard LCD display can show pop emails in your account as well as the other features mentioned in the forum... I am surprised with how quiet it is and I believe the fans come on even less than my M1710.
I am a manager in the telecomms industry and already quite a few people have been around to drool over it.
Thanks again to Dell for their support with this line of systems...

So what specs did they ship it with?

I am surprised that you got a replacement in matter of days while other actual 1730 buyers have to wait minimum of 2 weeks.

This is in the UK... is there really that much of a delay? None the less I had still been without a XPS since the 18th of Dec.... I had originaly been quoted a few weeks

Dell has treated me very well on all warranty issues. I usually go to Dell Chat and handle things.

I love Dell chat, the language barrier is very nicely broken down in most cases.

I've had 3 dell laptops (9100, 9300 and now m1710) within the last 3 years. The only times I've had to talk to support was when I demanded my OS cds, or when I ordered a replacement gpu fan from spare parts for my first one (warranty expired). Even though it was just brief conversations, they knew what they were doing and what I wanted.

When I first went for a dell, most of my friends warned me about their customer service and how I would end up there. A fact I constantly remind them of, whenever one of their pcs break down / randomly reboot.

Aside from the price (which is different in Sweden in a relative sense) I'd rate dell a 5/5 with extra cherry on top (or not, if you don't like it).

(just thought I'd post my own experience in this + thread)

Yeah I agree... Dell support is awesome... the only laptops I buy are Dell because of CC.

No matter how hard you try (even if all the laptop does is sit on your desk) there'll be the day within 5 years of the warranty that you accidentally screw it up. Dell is one of the only companies to fix that for you. and on top of that there's next day.... wow... the P on my M1330 fell off and they replaced the whole lcd panel pretty much lol. Nice :P
