Need Help Disabling Launch Keys

Mother sent me her Gateway laptop to work on because it was constantly launching the browser. Spyware/adware/virus/trjan right? nope. After formatting and throwing on a fresh copy of XP, I realized it was still doing it. Then realized the pattern. When it sat still there was typically no problem, but as soon as you tocuh the laptop browsers start launching to the home page. So I opened it up, and removed the board which has the switches to launch the browser, help, email, and the power switch. Tapped the laptop, problem still exists. So now I need a solution that does not include replacing the system board, which is to remove the driver that controls the quick launch buttons, but not the power if possible. Any ideas anyone?

TweakUI has some custom key setting in it, couldn't find 'Launch' keys, but maybe you can find a way to point the key to a null program.
