Basic Specs, and laptop maintenance

Thread Starter
Im going over to the middle east and looking to take a laptop that will peform the basics.
such as
-Play the latest games
-And connect to wire less internet
Im relatively new to laptops and want to spend from $1500 - $2000
Can i just have an idea of what is out there and what sort of specs i should look for.
Thankyou.
I also will be working with alot of sand around me so are there certain ways to prevent laptop for getting damaged?

there are laptops that are made for rugged situations, check rugged notebooks. i think dell has one..

For the latest games, get something with 8*** series graphics card, you also need vista for directx10 to play the latest games(im not sure coz im still using xp)

For the wireless connectivity, almost all laptops today have wifi capability, just get a card that is 802.11n. you can also change these cards while your in the middle east, i heard that computer parts there are cheap.

dont forget to get a modest processor and enough ram at least 2gb if your running vista.
