How many sku's does MS have now for the 360?
Quite a few.

I wonder if MS could keep this at a $499 price range. Wifi, 320gb hdd and maybe built in hd-dvd. On top of the price of the 360 now?

Funny thing is all the stuff that Arch was bitching about being forced to get with the PS3 are now being added to the 360.

oh i thought this was teh rumored one
havent seen any other news on that anywhere else

the main rumor is they are going to licence the technology to other manufacturers, such as Toshiba. since HD-DVD drive builtin is a hot subject, I'll mention Microsoft themselves is not interested in putting in an HD-DVD drive built-in, but that wouldnt necessarily stop Toshiba from making a variant with one bundled if Microsoft does move to do that

CES next week, and it will be Gates' last CES speech. so the world is waiting on what Microsoft has to announce.

Yeah but you will still be able to buy an "arcade" version and they always had the core version......

JMHO, but I hate the multiple sku's in the end its just a more efficient way of getting more of everyone's money

otherwise known as discrimination in economics. If a firm can successfully discriminate (ie...charge the maximum amount a person is willing to pay for a product) the more money they rake in at the end. In other words... if a casual middle class gamer buys an arcade for $270, and a upper class pro gamer gets a ultimate for $500... everybody (but especially microsoft) wins.

edit: yeah...technically its not discrimination since that implies charging maximum amount for a uniform product. various 360 models are not exactly uniform.

how many more versions of this thing can they come out with? I own a PS3 and i can't believe they have come out with 4 models in almost a year. 360 is not far behind.

This thing will never be released and you can quote me on that.

Why?

There is no need. Plain and simple.

As I stated in another thread, M$ is just stretching until consumers have fast enough home bandwidth that direct d/ling of large gigabyte games and HD movies is on par with what broadband dsl/cable did for the mp3.

Then they are completely vertically integrated and effectively cut out all the middlemen associated with a physical store bought medium (retailers, distribution, disc manufacturing, etc)

Even when this does hit, the only real upgrades M$ would need to make are gigabit network port/N wireless and larger hdd's, everything else would be done w/ software and services that M$ controls.

As such there is no immediate need or hurry to put either hd drive in the 360 especially w/ Wii not even playing DVD's and the Wii's success helping the PS3 flounder as it is.

We shall see. Everyone I talk to still complains about noise, heat, and the fact that they don't want to spend a 100 bucks on wirless and are pissed that I have it built in plus all the other media crap I can do that they have issues doing. They can still do it not as easy though.

Why would you want HD-DVD built in when it's sinking like the titanic?
Cause this was rumored when HD-DVD had a fighting chance.
