USB device not recognized

I have a dell Inspirion 1100 laptop. Anytime I put a USB device in it comes up with "USB Device Not Recognized" I have deleted the driver and re-installed it, and that has not worked. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with dell and they had access to my computer and could not fix the problem.I have checked the ports and they say they are ok. PLEASE HELP!!!

Have you got the chipset drivers installed (available from Dell site and Intel site)? Also, what devices are you trying to connect? Make sure they do not require their own drivers to be installed beforehand.
