All the other hardware, including the intel chipset/ graphics I was able to find XP drivers that worked. The audio is killing me, though and Gateway is unwilling to supply XP supported drivers for their Vista-marketed notebooks.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

I take it you tried this driver from Gateway: http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=182855033

If that dosnt work try this one: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOU...006-5682.shtml

You could also try another companys site, heres why.
PC Audio Support

July 25, 2006--SigmaTel, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGTL) announced today that it signed a definitive agreement with Integrated Device Technology (IDT) (NASDAQ:IDTI) to sell its PC Audio product line to IDT. Try some other drivers from gateway that has the same audio.
Sometimes you might get lucky and find a driver that works.

Having the same problem with a similar Gateway Notebook.

The problem with SigmaTel being sold to IDT is that they struck a deal with Gateway. In that agreement, IDT agreed not to supply any driver's that work specifically on the Gateway systems. IDT posted this notice with the instruction that you will have to go to Gateway. Of course, Gateway is very tight on giving out any driver's for XP unless it came with your computer.

I am currently investigating the possibility that it's having the correct PCI bus driver tha's is key to making the SigmaTel driver work with the audio components. Check your device drivers, listed "by connection". This will clue you into this fact.

And, of course, let me know if you find anything first. David1[at]BurkhartWeb.com. Send me your address and I'll do likewise.
