Connecting my XBox 360 and computer to my computer monitor - Page 2

actually i suppose it doesn't matter since you're not using HDMI. they all have Composite. use your VGA cable as your video connection and use the audio connection as Composite (RCA) that would be the red and white cables. If your monitor (is also a TV) you should be able to plug them into your audio in ports. if your monitor is a PC monitor, then you will need to find external speakers to use with the RCA cables because most computer monitors do not have audio in.

If you do not have a LCD monitor already save yourself the trouble and get a LCD TV.

it has built in speakers or does the cord not even have an audio cord in it?
thank link isnt specific enough.. it says it includes "Audio Cable" in the box but doesn't tell you what kind...

this is an example of a RCA composite cable

you will normally see them like this, but you can buy them without the video cable (which is the yellow)

yes. but again, the sound will be coming from your laptop. not the tv.

How about you tell us which XBox you have as well that would help you know.

And again Just get a TV.

because thats all his TV/monitor supports

I thought he was asking what monitor to get to go with his 360 because he didn't have one. My bad.
well thats just what i am assuming.. its a lot more expensive to get an HDMI supported monitor/TV than one with older VGA only technology
post #35 of 67
True, but If your going to spend money and have to put up with the headaches that VGA of the 360 is going to cause, spend a little more and get a HD TV. Even a 26 inch like I have would be nicer then having to deal with a monitor and speakers.
VGA isn't much of a big deal.

Thought I'd chime in, jic you have not bought the lcd yet.

Be wary of ~22" LCD's right now they are the hot ticket price and selection wise but......

Most 22" monitors have a native res of 1680x1050

Which the 360 even over vga hasnt supported as a native res.
This may have changed but I havnt heard nething bout it.

Will they still work, I think so, but since the 360 doesnt support that native res, your stuck w/ some crappy interpolated resolution or letterboxing Im pretty sure.

IMO it would be better to go bigger than smaller to get an lcd w/ a supported native res. That said, there are some somewhat decent lower end 24" lcd's w/ native 1080p resolution, but there is usually a good price hike on those and for the money you might be able to get a walmart-esqe 720p lcd tv(not monitor) for the same price but in a much larger screen size.

just an fyi, take it for what u will
