Bad battery fried my MOBO????

Hi All
I think my xps9300gen2 might have some major promblems.

My battery went bad........got the bad battery flash code and the battery lights on back would light up funky.

I bought a new battery and the light isn't flashing anymore, system recognizes and charges it, BUT when I unplug the AC power to run on battery I get artifacts then system freeezes. I tried a third battery but it's the same deal. Won't run on the batteries

I fear it's the mobo.

Anyone delt with something like this?

Is it still under warranty?

no warranty.........is it possible that it could be a software issue?
I would like to know for sure before I though the cash down for a new mobo

Hey, I had a problem like that, I have an XPS/9300 too. I bought a new battery when the battery icon started flashing with the old battery. It charged up but when I switched from A/C to battery, the computer shut down (like it wasn't getting enough power or something). I looked at the specs on my old battery and compared to the new and found that the one I ordered was 6600mAH where the old one that came with my notebook was 7200mAH, but the site I ordered the new one (Amazon) said it's compatible with the 9300, XPSgen2, XPSM170, etc., which isn't true (I also saw this on another site too).

Maybe something like this is the problem with yours. Make sure the battery(s) you ordered are really it.

It's funny you should mention that.

Actually the first battery I ordered was a 6600 one off of EBay.

It looks nothing like the one in the picture by the way.
The seller claimed it was a high quailty Japanese cell but it had a BIG made in China sticker written on it. Bait and switch but I needed a battery so I thought I would give it a try.My computer would not boot off of it.......and when I unplugged it the system would automatically freeze. So I contacted them and sent it back.......and bought an OEM 7200MAH 80WH battery.

I actually thought the 6600MAH hour battery damaged my system.....because I didn't have system freezes until after I put it in. I saw it was made in China before I put it in the machine but I needed it fairly bad so I gave it try.

Hang on...........I have more info!

I'm feeling a little more hopeful that it may be software related.

If I put the battery in the machine.......it will boot up. I go throug the boot up screen to the windows log on. After I enter my password and it stats to go into my desktop the system freezes.

I'm off to try it in safe more to see what happens.

It will run off of battery in safe mode.
Only thing I can think to do at this time is to wipe my harddrive and reload windows.

I tried reinstalling the orginal dell drivers(made in 95) for the video card........and it still crashes when I unplug the AC power

ok, I think I was able to finally solve this problem

I had a spare harddrive here with a known good copy of windows on it. I popped this in the lappy and it works now!
It had some screen garbles for a second when I first switched it over to battery power.....but it cleared up and now does fine.
I guess it is something wrong with the windows installation on the newer hard drive.
I tried to put this drive in earliery but it would not boot up.......I forgot to put the adapter on it so it plugs into the 9300 mobo correctly.

Woot!
