Extensa 5620-6830 memory upgrade instructions

Thread Starter
Has anyone posted photos of the procedure for adding memory modules to the Extensa 5620 (or any model constructed in the same way)? Have written Acer ... waste of time, right? Hunted the net high and low and found others asking the question ... has anyone ever answered it? A url to the answer would be wonderful (if not a miracle).

Hope I'm not just lenthening the Pain List.

Okay, after further searching I found one post, not about a 5620 but about another model, in which it was stated that the access cover on the bottom is a little hard to remove, that it needs to be carefully pried up. Turns out this is exactly the case with the Extensa 5620 ... Starting on the side near a tiny icon of a memory chip (which is stamped into the plastic case material itself) there is a slightly beveled starting point where a pocket knive or jeweler's screwdriver (flat blade) can be inserted to start the prying. working to the left and applying slowly increasing pressure to pry the cover loose, it eventually "popped" when a tiny tab on the inside finally sprung loose. I then continued making my way around the cover prying as I went. The key is to go slowly but steadily. Eventually I made my way around the entire cover and it lifted off nicely, revealing the hard drive, the memory chips and the mobo. Some of the little tabs broke off, but not enough of them to prevent a secure seal when I replaced the cover after installing the RAM chip. There are two slots. I wanted to upgrade to 2 gig but foolishly didn't realize the existed 1 gig was the result of two 512 meg chips. That sux. They should just populate one slot with a 1 gig chip so upgrading to 2 gigs only requires buying another 1 gig chip.

When I install the second 1 gig chip later this year, I will add pictures documenting the procedure.

Hi,

I know that this post was created some time ago.

I am looking to do the exact same thing. Did you eventually create the post with pictures? If so, where?

Thank you! :)
