5760 short circuit

Ive had my Sager 5760 for about a year and a few months and it's been working great up until now. It won't start. It started when it no longer ran on power from the AC adaptor, but it still ran off battery power, so I was able to save and shut down, but now when I press the power button nothing happens. When the AC adaptor is plugged in the outlet the light is on but when I then plug into the computer, the light blinks. Ive tested the AC adaptor and the battery with a volt tester and they both work and Ive called tech support and they've confirmed that there is a short circuit that is preventing power from the battery and AC adaptor from getting to the rest of the computer and they want me to send it back, but that will take 3-6 weeks and cost a lot and I need it for school, so I dont want to send it back until Ive exhausted all other options. i plan on taking it to school next week and having one of my teachers look at it, because I go to a technical school and major in electronics so if I can disassemble it they may be able to pinpoint the problem, but I was wondering if anyone here can help me first.

It's really funny that I just read your threat because I literally just had the EXACT same problem - all the same symptoms and I too need it for school!

I've been told it is very likely that the problem is easily fixable on the motherboard by just replacing the piece that connects the power supply adapter to the motherboard. I've circled in red the area I'm talking about in one of the photos here: http://s192.photobucket.com/albums/z301/Chase90007/ .

I'm trying to fix it myself, but the problem I'm having now is that I can't figure out how to get the case off properly to access that area. Have you tried getting the case completely off and had any success?

That's odd.

Altho, I actually was able to get the case off and determined my problem to be irreparable: My power and ground lines have become shorted together as the author of this thread suspected for this computer and there is no clear indicator as to where they are shorted so I am out of luck. I tried taking the DC input off the board and that didn't work.

I have a 5720, basically the same laptop design on the inside. I had a similar problem, quite possibly the same. I tried to turn my laptop on and I have all the 0000000s light up on the front and a red circle too that I didn't know existed.. then it doesn't turn on.

If I take out the ac adapter and just use the batter power it says its on but it doesn't boot up... For like 45mins I swapped back and forth between power and just battery to try to turn it on. Finally I got it to turn on and plugged the ac adapter back in.. Its happened before but never took that long to turn on. I have left it on since. Everything is fine, I can reboot-shutdown as long as I do it quick.. but If i leave it alone for more than a few hours it happens again. Hope this helps.

I seem to be having some of the same issues...when I unplug my computer (5760) from the outlet for a long time it doesn't want to start up again. I mean when I plug it back in it takes some time for all the lights to come on and then they come on and off. The fans turn on right away when I plug it in. My warranty just expired...the computer is 14 months old so I'm a little lost as to what to do about this right now...once it's on thought it runs just fine

Is there a BIOS update available for this motherboard? I have seen strange issues like this resolved in the past for other systems with a simple flash of the chip?

i actually haven't looked, I'll look around...the weird thing is that my computer is perfectly fine as long as I keep it plugged in...not on...just plugged in. If it's unpluged for prolong periods of time...~24 hours and more...then the problem starts to appear, it's fine for short periods...but I'll look if I can flash the BIOS
