f755us audio chipset/driver (XP)

my buddy just picked up a compaq f755us notebook at a local CC. i loaded up XP with a HP disc from the new p-series (included downgrade HP offereing to bus customers) and have all drivers functional (with a bit of fiddling) except:

1.audio
2.modem

dont care much about the modem but been searching high/low for audio. appears to be a conexant HD smartaudio 221. the vista drivers will load and even give the volume icon in systray but no audio. other drivers i have found load with exclamation.

using unknowndevices (from UBCD) reveals hardware ID but no luck on google with it.

anyone have any insight? thanks!

ok used: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33543.exe

modded the INF to use hardware id for this 221 (hermosa) .

YMMV

Hi. I'm a total newb when it comes to this kind of thing. I just finished rolling back an HP dv9270us computer. All the drivers are intact except for the Conexant HD SmartAudio 221!

Can you tell me how to mod the drivers I downloaded from the link above so I can get them to work? I'm anxious to get on with life after Vista!

Thanks!
